News Bit
09 Jul 2003

It's been a typical bootleg summer with fewer new releases than the colder parts of the year. Basically nothing is coming from Japan and few from elsewhere. We hope you are not discouraged by the lesser amount of entries in Hot Wacks Online during June but we should be making up for that in the next couple of months as lots or new titles are slated for release. Here's a sampling of what's to come:

Crystal Cat: Several new Springsteen releases from the 2002/2003 tour. Titles include London 2nd, Rotterdam, Atlantic City, Somerville, Milano and possibly a few others. Also mentioned are more Dylan releases although no further details have been announced so far.

Watchtower: The folks behind Watchtower have several DVD titles ready for release (The Japanese label who always seem to have the last word in quality on just about everything). A bit to my surprise, they are DVD-R and some of the packaging graphics are taken right from other circulating releases of the same material. HOWEVER, they do again get the final word on these 15 or so titles as the quality is second to none. Some of the titles included are "Best of the Johnny Cash Show" (Dylan, CCR, etc.), Stones "Marquee Club", several Beatles titles, and others. We'll be reviewing them in the next few days. Also, W.T. has released two new Hendrix CD titles of his final shows in Sweden (audience recordings but reportedly quite acceptable considering the historic importance) which we'll publish more details in the coming days.

Hot Stuff (who recently released the Springsteen Atlanta 2002 show in superb ALD quality) has another Springsteen title about to break called "Right the Fuck On!" which is reportedly a much upgraded and more complete soundboard of a Steel Mill appearance at The Scene in Sayreville, NJ 1971.

Scorpio hints of two Stones DVD titles about to hit the market of early, material (UK TV appearances never circulated plus other unseen and upgraded material). Also new Van Morrison, Neil Young, and others.

The Clash specialist Snotty Snail has two new Clash titles about to pop. "I Fought the Law" is from the London Lyceum in January of 1979 and suggested to be a superb audience recording. Also new is "Rude Boy - The Directors Cut" (probably the third or fourth different release of these outtakes but these are direct from the bands vaults and include some material not released previously). Both titles should be very welcomed by Clash fans. Snotty Snails previous two releases reportedly sold out in a matter of days. Snotty Snail also has a Sex Pistols title getting ready for press.

Livewire has a triple disc Tom Petty set about to break which is culled from Chicago broadcasts of his shows there this spring while performing on the Last DJ tour. Included is one complete show plus odd tracks from other nights. Critical reviews of these shows included "phenomenal, historical, real rock and roll" so I'm guessing the CD set should not be any disappointment.

Hot Wacks Online is now more interactive than ever. You can upload your own reviews and comment more easily on staff and subscriber submissions. Thanks to those of you who have so far participated. The more opinions - the better.

More to come. I'll update this column as often as the new flies by. Thanks again for your interest in Hot Wacks Online and hang on for tons more reviews over the coming weeks.
