The calm before the Fall Release Storm?...
22 Aug 2004

There seems to be a bit of calm that has set in on the bootleg release front. At least from the major labels. We are aware of numerous high profile projects slated for Fall release and it appears we are in between waves. However, the CDR and DVD-R labels are certainly keeping collectors busy trying to sort out what relevant titles to chase down. As you all know, we will soon see things really pick up for the Falland we are ready to bring all the glorious details and info to you here at HotWacks On-line!

Heres what we have heard about this weektheres a Black Sabbath disc on the way called Born Again Unmixed Demos and The Fallen , which features an unreleased audio cassette recording from the master reel during the "Born Again" sessions which took place at the Manor Studios on June 26th, 1983.

The Sirene label has two new Genesis titles on the way. Last Super Live features a soundboard recording from Zurich, July 2, 1977.and Dukes Misunderstanding is also a soundboard taken from their Montreal Forum concert on June 19th, 1980.

Other new releases include: Michelle Branch Live Me Like That recorded live at the Osaka Dome on July 25th, 2004 as part of the Rock Odyssey Concerts that also featured The Who and Aerosmith. The MisterClaudel CD Label has released Paul McCartney & Wings Wings From The Wing, which captures the band live at The Los Angeles Forum on June 23rd, 1980. For Paul Simon fans, the Palm Drive label has issued a new title simply called Live In Boston 2001. which is a recording from Bostons Tweeter Center on July 13, 2001.

For fans of Progressive Rock, let it be known that a superb new King Crimson disc is out called Pop Spectacular: BBC In Concert. This soundboard recording documents the band in their prime at the Concert Gebouw in Amsterdam on November 23, 1973. The release is a Limited Edition title of only 300 copies. Reel Masters has pulled out another obscure recording from the archives.this time its a 1972 recording of the band,Nucleus and the title is called Belladonna Live. The recording is taken from Westfield College in Hemstead, London on June 27th, 1972.

Digital Line DVD has several new releases, includingThe Who Summer Of 74, which is the excellent pro-shot/soundboard production from the Charlton Athletic Grounds that has been circulating under different labels, mostly in DVD-R form Aerosmith Live And F.I.N.E. (Philadelphia, Jan. 19, 1990 Pro-Shot/Soundboard)Metallica Big Day Out (Melbourne, Australia, April 1, 2004 Pro-Shot/Soundboard)and Pink Floyd Calhoun Tapes which is again copied from the Pink Floyd fan-based label Harvested. This is a collection of outtakes for promo videos which were professionally shot at The Omni in Atlanta 1987.

Honorable mentionsthe Cats Meow DVD-R label has a slew of new offerings.most notably, Grand Funk Railroad Live which is their 1974 L.A. Coliseum pro-shot concert transferred from Japanese Laser Disc. Great stuff from Grand Funk caught in their prime. The Laser Disc was pretty scarce so this is a welcome release for us on a DVD-R disc. Also, Miles Davis Karlsruhe 1967, which is said to be an absolutely beautiful black & white print, transferred nicely onto DVD. Another artist caught on film in his prime! Other DVD-R titles from the label include Emerson, Lake & Palmer Seventy Seventy-Four, Phish Halloweenie 94, Rod Stewart Melbourne 77, Elton John Christmas In London and Stiff Little Fingers See You Up There.

The 4Reel Label made quite a name for themselves in 2002 with their superb DVD release of Ladies & GentlemenThe Rolling Stones. Their titles are always cause for celebration and now they have for us, what seems to bethe definitive DVD release of The Rolling Stones Cocksucker Blues. The production is provided to us collectors on the special DVD-9 disc (which allows you up to 4 hours of content without sacrificing video quality)with this release packing in over 3 hours of material! Aside from the upgraded Cocksucker Blues feature, the disc boasts a ton of bonus footage, including: Saville Theatre 1969, Australian Tour Documentary 1973, Promos:Angie - Silver Train - Dancin With Mr. D - Till The Next Goodbye - Aint Too Proud To Beg. Brown Sugar Clip 1973, David Frost Show 1969, 2 very rare interviews with Mick Jagger from 1969 and 1971, Mick and Biancas Wedding (Rare 16mm film transfer of recently uncovered outtakes from the 25x5 movie).sounds like a pretty sweet release! Also from 4Reel Productions is their first U2 DVD Out of Control in San Francisco from a May 15th, 1981 concert in Pro-shot/Soundboard quality. The word from one of our members is that this thing is phenomenal!apparently it is the first bootleg DVD to feature camera angle options! A review is in the works for our HotWacks On-line membership.

As we mentioned a few days ago, Watch Dog DVD has Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band The Darkness On The Edge Of Town Tour ready for release mid-September! This 2-disc set sounds like the ultimate 1978 document. Disc 1 and first four tracks of Disc 2 feature the pro-shot concert in glorious quality from the Capitol Center in Landover, Maryland on August 15, 1978. The balance of Disc 2 features the best of 78 footage as bonuseswith 5 tracks from Phoenix 7/8/78 in stunning quality but has a timing strip at the bottom, then 4 different tracks from the same Phoenix show from 3 different sources! The title rounds out with a guest appearance from Bruce, joining Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland on August 31st 1978! This one is just a couple of weeks out and well get our hands on a copy to review.now, back to some other CD news we talked about earlier as wellThe Doberman Label has their new Bob Dylan "If Memory Serves You Well coming out on CDR in September as well. This 4 disc set is culled from several Irish and UK performances from this past June. The title features 2 complete shows from Glasgow on June 23rd and 24th.Newcastle on June 22nd and some bonus tracks taken from Belfast on June 26th and Galway on June 27th. Dobermans new Jesse Malin Blitzkrieg title is out now. It contains the complete performance from the show at the Arts Center in Norwich, UK on the 13th May 2004, plus a selection of other songs recorded at ten other shows during an exhaustive series of gigs to launch The Heat album. The source tape for the Norwich show is said to be a stunning audience recording, while the bonus tracks are apparently taken from a series of top quality audience tapes as well.

Some housekeeping notesGenuine Masters Ladies And GentlemenThe Rolling Stones Widescreen Release will be in our hands in the next day, or so. The title ships to collectors August 25th..Prism Records has apparently solved their DVD problem with their Buddy Holly The Music Never Died titlediscs are said to be shipped asap. Scorpios ambitious Bob Dylan DVD Box Set is said to be near completion but packaging issues are said to have pushed the street-date into October or possibly early November.

Thats it for now!...Did I really imply that things have slowed?!!! I have to get all of my new reviews finished and posted for you all. Thanks for joining me here and Ill meet you back here next Sunday. Have a good week!
