A late edition of Bootleg News for January 30th...
30 Jan 2005

Ok everyone, the Bootleg News for the week of January 24th, 2005. Again, my apologies for the late posting. Let's jump right in.

Genuine Masters unveiled it's next LED ZEPPELIN DVD-Audio/Picture Montage release this week. "Texas Pop" is the working title...and though we don't have a firm release date for this one - we can pass along some details. Texas Pop will feature 2 different sourcetapes...an uncirculated soundboard recording from the mixing desk, and a much cleaner version of the audio taken from the Video Stereo Soundtrack source. I was able to sample comparisons to Empress Valley's "The Only Way To Fly" and Whoopy Cat's "Plays Pure Blues" soundboards against samples of the Soundboard utilized on GM's Texas Pop...again, Genuine Masters sources and mastering are going to give Zeppelin collectors more to talk about! The "new" recordings provide more depth and clarity than any other version released previously. They will be filling in the gaps of the recordings with the very good audience tape that has been in circulation. Running times for each of the GM sources with audience filler are 64 minutes, 34 seconds for the Stereo Soundboard and 66 minutes, 20 seconds for the Video Soundtrack Source. We certainly look forward to experiencing this next title and it should be right up there with GM's best DVD-Audio/Picture Montages to date, "Devil's Blues" and "Mystic San Diego".

PRINCE collectors will be pleased at the compilations released this week by the Ladybird Label..."Royal Vision Volume 1: The Promotional Videos 1978-1984" compiles 16 videos including the unreleased version of "I Wanna Be Your Lover", plus the complete video for "Automatic". "NPG TV Channel Volume 1: TV Appearances 2003-2004" packages some memorable Television appearances from 2003's Hong Kong Harbour Festival concert to his induction to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame last year with' his blistering performances from that night, including the show stopping version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Trial DVD Masters have released a couple of nice DAVID BOWIE titles..."Station To Station Tour Rehearsals" and "50th Birthday Bash"...also from Trial comes THE JAM "Dortmund 1980", a Pro-shot video of their German performance on November 30th, 1980 along with bonus clips of performances from 1981 and '82. Look for another title from Trial featuring JOURNEY, called "Soundstage" it captures the band onstage in Chicago in 1978 and is supposedly from a superb Pro-shot source. From Power Gate DVD Masters comes an excellent release for RUSH fans..."Caught In The Act" is a Pro-shot DVD of the bands' December 10th, 1976 set opening for FOGHAT at the Capital Theater in Passaic, New Jersey! The video soundtrack was just torrented on EZ Torrent this weekend and all of a sudden there is a DVD out! Should be great. Also featured on the disc as a bonus is the pro-shot footage from Rochester, New York in 1975 - however, it seems they have attempted to synch up a soundboard recording from Rockford, Illinois on November 15th, 1975. I'm not a fan of this method but the Capital Theater show is going to be cool to see...another Power Gate release is WHITESNAKE "Night Of Buffalo" documents their show at the Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, New York on February 19th, 1990.

More ERIC CLAPTON material was released this week. This time courtesy of the Beano Label...and this latest set is a 5CD package called "Scottish Ramblin'" which compiles recordings from 2 nights at Edinburgh Playhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland on February 27th and 28th, 1985...plus, the rehearsals prior to the gig on the 27th. We also told you about an awesome sounding YES release from Sirene earlier this week..."Maryland Heights" is the title of what is being called a "perfect soundboard" recording of their June 29th, 1994 concert in St. Louis at the Riverport Amphitheater. Trial has a new HALL & OATES CD out titled "So Close Acoustically" and it is also a stereo soundboard that captures the band live at The Sands Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey on November 9, 1991...New from Main Stream is BOB DYLAN "Ringo Kid & The Gunfighters" which is recorded in Frejus, France on June 13th, 1989 and features a guest appearance by RINGO STARR and is a 2CD set...Wild Street has released a PETE TOWNSEND solo performance from Brixton Academy in London on November 2nd, 1985 simply titled Brixton 1985 and is a complete recording on 2CD's. Also look for the new KISS release "Alive At Budokan" to be in distribution in the next few days. Finally...and this just in, 4Reels' new DVD, THE WHO "The Summit 1975" has just been released. This prize release of their complete Houston 1975 show has been mastered directly from the 3/4" Reels and is pressed on the high capacity DVD-9 disc. The title also features some great bonus material including: The entire 42 minutes of footage from Detroit's Pontiac Stadium 1975, Old Grey Whistle Test performance of "Long Live Rock" 1973, a 1975 interview with Keith Moon on the Old Grey Whistle Test, some 1972 French TV footage and a 1973 Roadie Documentary!!! This sounds fabulous.

That's it! Brief, but effective. Hope to meet you back here next Sunday for the breakdown of Bootleg release news here at HotWacks On-line. I'll make sure that it gets posted earlier in your Sunday so you have a chance to read it before the weekend is over. Have a good one.
