Bootleg Release News for the week that was....
24 Apr 2005

Greetings from the crew here at HotWacks On-line. Another busy week and by the looks of all the SPRINGSTEEN bootleg releases and news, the labels are getting busier as well!

Let's throw out a teaser first...a yet undisclosed Label is getting ready to unveil BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "Devils & Dust Tour Rehearsals" Vol. 1 & 2. The first 2CD set is "The Benefit For World Hunger" and Volume 2 is "A Benefit For Asbury Park"...we'll share more when we can soon! In other BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND bootleg news, Anubis has released "Midnight Run At The Firenze" which documents the bands' July 8th, 2003 gig on 3CDR's -sister label Piggham has "Helsinki Rising" recorded live in Finland on June 17th, 2003...The Doberman Label has an outstanding 2CDR set that is available now called "When The Lights Go Out" on 2CDR's that showcases the new soundboard that is in circulation from Bruce's acoustic solo show at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on November 17th, 1990 for The Christic Institute!...this is a MAJOR upgrade to what has been making the rounds previously so, great stuff here...because of a few edits in the soundboard, Doberman has filled in those spots with the best audience sources available to provide a complete show...the set comes complete with extensive liner notes and background information on the recording and show. The Godfather Records and its' family of labels have a few new releases as well. Godfather Records has a new BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN release of their own, "Merry Christmas Baby" houses a huge upgrade to the Nassau Coliseum show on December 28th, 1980 concert with bonus tracks from the L.A. Sports Arena on August 24th, 1981 - all in a deluxe gatefold packaging presentation that the label is known for...also from GF Records is DURAN DURAN "You Can Touch The Sunrise" a soundboard recording from the Hammersmith Palais on January 13th, 2005 and NICK CAVE "Into The Abbatoir" is a recording of CAVE and band on the Later with Jools Holland BBC-TV show from October 29th, 2004 with bonus tracks from Milan a month later on November 29th. Apocalypse Sound has a few new DVD titles out now...GUNS & ROSES "Santiago" provides a Pro-shot/soundboard production of their Santiago, Chile show on December 2nd, 1992 with bonus footage from Oklahoma on April 4th of '92...BON JOVI "Big Hot Night" is also Pro-shot with sounboard audio and features the bands' performance in Rio in January of 1990...then there is NIRVANA "Demolition Man" which features their Seattle 12/13/93 performance for MTV's "Live And Loud" recorded at Pier 48 in Seattle plus, there's bonus footage from the Saturday Night Live reheasals on September 25th, 1993, Stockholm '94 and French TV '94 ...U2 "Souls, Boots & Prayers" is the Pro-shot/Soundboard recording of their L.A. concert on November 18th, 1997 (which Godfather included as a bonus in their March CD set "Desert Roads")...rounding out the family of releases is GREEN DAY "Anarchy In The U.S." on the Goodfellas DVD Label and this one compiles the MTV Studio footage in Milan on January 17th of this year along with the AOL Sessions from last September - all releases come in those glorious triple fold-out digipacks too.

We told you about Genuine Masters superb sounding DAVID BOWIE DVD-Audio/Picture Montage release last week...the label has locked in on an early-June street-date and is titled "Reality In Melbourne"...the recording at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on February 26th, 2004 was made by Blackdog himself and is said to be outstanding! Just released for ROLLING STONES collectors is an upgraded show from Digital Line..."Seattle Supersonic" is a double Silver DVD set that is getting early raves...the set is an upgrade of the Seattle Kingdome concert on October 15th, 1981 - previously released by Cosmic Energy and others - but this new title from DL boasts an upgraded video print with the stellar soundboard taken from Empress Valley's CD set and it sounds like a winner. In other things ROLLING STONES...Dogs N' Cats Records has added a few more titles that tap into their former-self, Vinyl Gang Productions...in addition to "Paris Match" they will issue "Dallas Rehearsals 1972", "French Made" - which is the Paris 7/6/76 soundboard that has been issued umpteen times and "Backstage Unlimited" which is the Lyon, France show from June 9th, 1976...New titles announced out of Japan over the weekend include...A special Import DVD title, QUEEN "Hyde Park 1976", 80 minute color Pro-shot vid from their outdoor London concert on September 18th, 1976!...Wardour has QUEEN "At Last Budokan" out now, this 2CD set is from The Budokan on May 9th, 1985 and is said to be from the Master Cassette...Trial has ROBERT PLANT "All The Kings Horses", which documents his April 4th Royal Albert Hall concert with STRANGE SENSATIONS spread on to 2CDRS...then there is another RITCHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW DVD-R title, "Osaka 1995", recorded live in Japan on November 16th of '95...and, of course there is that ambitious new PINK FLOYD Limited Edition Hollywood Bowl 1972 set from Sirene coming out called "Damn Braces: Bless Relaxes" which will house 2 different audio sources + a 21 minute DVD of footage - a cohesive pack of sources from their September 22nd, 1972 Hollywood Bowl performance...the set will be limited to 200 copies, which holds true to what the label has been doing with their deluxe productions...and get this!...the label is indicating this is "For Serious Pink Floyd Fans Only". Is that because the DVD footage is so bad? It's a cool idea for a themed release though, I like what they label has been doing with their FLOYD titles over the last 6 months.

The LED ZEPPELIN CDR Label, Beezlebub Records, has a couple of new titles ready...What will certainly be the Labels' flagship piece, certainly the most ambitious to date is the 8CD+1 Hard Box Set "A Rock N' Roll Institution"...which will house all three of the July 27th, 28th & 29th 1973recordings...the label isn't divulging what the mysterious "free rare disc" is though - oh the intrigue these labels like to instill in us!...Beezlebub's other title for April is "Time I Was On My Way", from Nuremburg, Germany on March 14th, 1973 on 2CDR's...by the way, the Beezlebub Records site is still posting deceptive information with their release announcements. THESE ARE NOT SILVER DISCS folks, but CDR's. That little nuance really bothers me. I have no problem with some of the stellar product coming out from reputable labels on CDR/DVD-R but that is an important fact to know when you are buying ANYTHING! Ok, enough of that...in other ZEPPELIN news, perhaps not!...is that Celebration at some point released a remastered version of their "Knebworth Lost Masters" single disc compilation of primarily the August 4th soundboard snipets along with a few soundboard tracks from the August 11th, 1979 show...this may not be new but I wasn't aware of this remastered version being out there. The first one really blew!..and this title is superfluous anyway. Hollow Horn has now shipped the latest, Volumes 4 & 5, of their BOB DYLAN Reference Recording Documents and if you are even the most minor of DYLAN fans or collectors - these 2CD sets are simply must haves that feature spectacular production of different periods of his recording career...The latest are "Blood On Your Saddle" and "Where The Monkey Dances". In other miscellaneous releases, from Fab is THE BEATLES "Lost Magical MysteryTour", Disc 1 contains Magical Mystery Tour era session plus The Fool on the Hill rehearsal tape...Disc 2 contains the mono Magical Mystery Tour EP & singles plus the 1988 stereo video soundtrack plus 2 BBC interviews...on Japanese CDR is THE BEATLES "Echoes and the Dream" which is a 6CDR set that is simply described as "Six discs of music and interviews". OK, perhaps if anyone comes across any more info they can share it with the membership here at HotWacks On-line! From Moschino comes another U2 release, "Stay till Your Heart Breaks Through", a single disc title with a soundboard from The Capital Center in Largo, Maryland on April 8th, 1985 and comes in gatefold package...there are 2 other NIRVANA titles to relay..."Making of Saturday Night Live" comes to us from the Darkroom Label and it features all the rehearsals as well as the actual show performances from the bands' SNL appearance along with some bonus tracks and slideshow..."Modern Day Fairy Tale" is from Satellite 6 and compiles 2 shows:...a Dutch TV Special of the pro-shot Paradiso concert on November 25th, 1991 along with interviews from the event, plus the MTV New Year's Eve Show live from Seattle on December 14th, 1993...I guess they celebrate early out there on the West Coast...

Finally this week....from Cat's Meow and its' related Labels comes a handful of interesting titles on DVD-R. Cat's Meow has 3 titles...JOE COCKER "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" is the 1971 concert film of Cocker's 1970 U.S. Tour and is still considered one of the best concert films ever - and I've never even seen the damn thing!...I guess I need to get a copy of it...The show features many special guests with the wonderful performances...there is also PINK FLOYD "Wall Live" a nice, budget priced version of the Earl's Court Pro-shot concert from August 8th & 9th, 1980 and this is being touted as one of the better prints in circulation on 2DVD-R's...KISS "Detroit 1976" is an outstanding version of this Pro-shot/Soundboard production of their January 25th, 1976 performance at Cobo Hall in Detroit -simply put, this is primetime KISS. From the sister Label, Bully, we have LITTLE STEVEN "Finally Live", which is about an hours worth of Pro-shot footage of LITTLE STEVEN and his DISCIPLES OF SOUL!...Recorded live in Denver circa 1984, this is obviously a must-have for fans who haven't had any quality material of LITTLE STEVEN to savor...and another U2 title wraps things up this week...Bully pulls together another Pro-shot/Soundboard production for "Broken Wing"...the title refers to the fact that Bono is working the crowd from Syracuse, New York with a broken arm on this October evening in 1987 and it really provides a unique and intense performance from the band.

That's all for now, thanks for stopping in and catching up with me. I'll meet you back here next Sunday at HotWacks On-line. Have a good one. Svengi April 24th, 2005
