The Father's Day Edition of Bootleg News at HotWacks On-line!
20 Jun 2005

I suppose I've had a balanced weekend between work and play, but why does work always seem to overshadow everything else? No complaints, spent a great Father's Day with my kids and now I'm happily exhausted! But hey!...there's quite a few cool titles we've learned about over the past week and this is where the brain-dump happens! In Bootleg Release News for the week that was June 13th-19th...

Genuine Masters broke their silence over the weekend by announcing that their next Hybrid DVD-Audio title will be LED ZEPPELIN "Burn Like A Candle"...featuring the virtually complete audience tape source from the L.A. Forum on June 25th, 1972...this was transferred from a direct tape source and has not been overly dehissed and EQ'd as all the other titles of this show have been but all the static bursts that have been present on the other releases have been given attention. GM has stated that this title will be shipping July 4th and collectors will also be able to order the set with accompanying audio discs on CDR if they so desire. I have mentioned this before but some of the recordings that are causing a buzz at the Bit Torrent sites are the Joe Maloney source tapes that have been getting shared. He was an avid taper that recorded concerts in the early-to-mid 70's, predominantly in the New England area and his recordings have been providing collectors with great stuff over the past 6 months and the Japanese Labels aren't letting that gift horse ride on by! We've seen them already jump all over his PINK FLOYD 1973 Boston source and now it's his recording of the FLOYD show at Boston Music Hall on May 4th, 1972 that is seeing a couple of new releases...Highland has theirs in the cue as "Mademoiselle Floyd" on Silver Disc and Sirene has theirs available right now as "Boston 1972" on CDR as a "strictly limited release of 150 copies." These are some wonderful tapes to hear so if you haven't honed your downloading skills, I would certainly recommend seeking some of these titles out. I would imagine the premium labels such as Empress Valley or Tarantura are readying his newly shared LED ZEPPELIN Boston '73 recording very very soon too!

The very latest release news out of Japan today includes some other interesting titles...a new QUEEN DVD has just been released, "Earl's Court '77" that is a Pro-shot source from June 6th, 1977 and clocking in at just under 2 hours...some new BLACK CROWES titles are finally starting to appear...on the King Stork label comes "Too Hot To Handle" which is from the warm-up shows at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York - this one from the March 30th performance, "Peace Anyway" is a 4CDR set from Sylph that combines 2 shows, the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater performance in Houston on April 21st and Memphis May 1st at the Beale Street Music Festival. A concert I would have given anything to be at is the BLACK SABBATH show at Aylesbury Civic Center in England on June 6th!...well, I wasn't there but at least some resourceful soul taped the event and it has just been released on the Power Gate label double-CDR as "Club Gig"...it's a dream set list so I hope the results of the taping were succesful in getting an above average recording...if anyone gets hold of a copy - share your take with us by forwarding a brief summary and we'll post the details, this one sounds great!...also new from Power Gate is BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "Long Time Comin'" from his Royal Albert Hall show in London on May 27th...from Trial on CDR is MARK KNOPFLER "All That Matters", also recorded at Royal Albert Hall - this show was on May 31st...new on the Zion label is TOTO "Can't Go Livin' Without You" on double-silver disc...this is apparently sourced from an analog vinyl piece called "Toto Isolation World Tour 1985" and is recorded live at The Budokan in Tokyo on January 26th, 1985 to be specific. We told you about a couple of new titles from the Seymour Label earlier this week...NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE "Cowgirl In Santa Cruz" is taken from their November 13th, 1990 show at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California...and there is also BOB DYLAN & THE BAND "Complete Before The Flood" that compiles both the Afternoon and Evening performances in soundboard source from the L.A. Forum on February 14th, 1974...Speaking of BOB, Mainstream will be releasing "The Great Resurrection" very soon...a 2cd that combines an audience source with the soundboard source from the Boston Garden a month earlier on January 14th, 1974...also from the label is another Joe Maloney source tape...THE EAGLES, the 2CD set from Mainstream is called "Crazy Old Night" and is taken from the Boston Music Hall on on May 14th, 1975 and also from the label comes THE KINKS "Aquarius and Orpheum" recorded by non-other Mr. Maloney at the then Aquarius Theater in Boston (now the Orpheum) on November 12th, 1972...Mainstream Visions has just released BRIAN MAY "Another World Special" in DVD-R format.

I'm still trying to confirm what Label has issued 2 new ROLLING STONES DVD's on silver disc...they are "Barcelona '90"-which is the Urban Jungle Broadcast from Europe...and then there is "On TV 65-69" which is simply transferred of a fan-based collection that compiles "Ready Steady Go" footage along with David Frost '69 and other great footage..if anyone has the Label info to share with us and fellow collectors - we would be grateful to learn who is putting these out...Exile Original Masters is releasing the 2CD set of the Joe Maloney STONES recording from Boston Gardens on July 18th-19th, 1972 - the evening the boys were arrested getting off the plane and the show was delayed a few hours. The Screamer Label also has a new PINK FLOYD title that was just released called "At The Stadium 1973" and is the Tampa Stadium audience source from June 29th, 1973...Another version of QUEEN's Milwaukee '75 show has just been issued by Gypsy Eye and is titled "In The Lap Of Queen"...from Rockmasters this week comes JOURNEY "The Band Plays On", recorded at The Capital Theater in Passaic, New Jersey on June 10th, 1978...for the Progressive Rock collectors, Mindwarp has issued the title "Hyper Space" from GONG w/BILL BRUFORD...a soundboard recording from the 15th of December 1974 in Oslo Norway...on the Lost And Found Label DEEP PURPLE "Norwegian Bananas" documents the bands' show in Haugesund, Norway last month on May 20th...on a related note Bondage Music has released RITCHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW "Second Night In Hollywood" on a single CD...the show was taped from the soundboard at The Billboard Live in Hollywood on March 18th, 1997.

Other interesting Bootleg release title to mention...Legendary Collection Series has issue another cool MILES DAVIS title, "Get The Funk", a soundboard from Stadthalle in Vienna on November 3, 1973...Tenmoku has issued a soundboard of the classic 60's group LOVE called "Product Of The Times" which is taken from The Fillmore West on November 21st, 1970...backtracking just a moment here...also from Lost and Found is an interesting SCORPIONS release on 2CDR simply called "German Tapes" and captures the bands' early live shows at the Gustav-Siegle-Haus in Stuttgart, Germany on January 13th, 1977 and in Cologne on April 26th, 1975! S.D.R. Records has released a "New Master Edition" of U2 "Zoorchestra in Zoophoria", on CDR...it features their show in Vienna, Austria on May 24, 1992.

That will have to do for now, thanks for stopping in. Look for more updates throughout the week on the HotWacks On-line News Ticker and we'll pull it all together in another summmation here next Sunday. Have a great week!
