A Week In Review...The Bootleg News...
28 Nov 2005

As the holiday season shifts into high-gear, there will likely be some high profile titles announced over the next few weeks. Our ears are firmly pressed to the walls, ready to relay any details as they emerge. Here's the roundup of all we learned for the week that was November 21st, 2005.

The Silent Sea Productions family of labels have been churning out all sorts of titles over the last 6 weeks...along with their latest DVD effort, THE ROLLING STONES MSG 2005 show, there is the nicely packaged CREAM Reunion 2CD "God Saved The Cream" - the 2nd show of 3 nights at New York's Madison Square Garden on October 25th, 2005. The effort certainly warrants early praise for the attention to detail in offering a collectible package that features a review of the 3 night stand (though the source isn't mentioned), photos, setlist, and ticket scan. A sister label, Black Cat Records, gave their version of the BOB DYLAN "BBC 1965" similar documentation but with a lighter graphical treatment and looks like a good acquisition or option for collectors. Speaking of BOB DYLAN...we learned today that Scorpio has obtained the footage of BOB's MTV Unplugged rehearsals and have issued said tape on their new "Unplugged Rehearsals" DVD, released under their Bad Wizard moniker. We haven't obtained any of Scorpio's recent DVD titles to find out first-hand if they learned any lessons from last years' programming debacle on the DYLAN DVD Box Set "The Genuine Telecasts". If you have picked up their recent CCR DVD or their other DYLAN release, "Northwest Passage", give us a shout and let us know how they look. We'll be obtaining copies soon in any case.

In the latest Japanese Bootleg Release information, Mainstream has announced THE EAGLES "Benefit For The Indians", a single disc featuring what is likely to be the Joe Maloney source tape from Boston Gardens on July 26, 1974...I do not have the story behind the title of this one but I believe the bill that evening included headliners, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND and the tape itself is certainly enjoyable and features a great setlist but is a bit distant. Exile is making certain that their ROLLING STONES Bigger Bang Tour releases are the definitive ones and that effort continues with the announcement this week of "Bang In The Park"...a Special Edition title which features both shows from San Francisco's SBC Park Baseball Stadium on November 13th and 15th, 2005. Darker Than Blue continues to document everything DEEP PURPLE and their latest is titled, "Slaves And Master Tapes", a 2CD set of stereo soundboard recordings from Sao Paulo, Brazil on August 20th &
21st, 1991 and The Hammersmith Odeon in London on March 15th, 1991...Power Gate has 2 new RAINBOW releases to mention... "Difficult To Deal" documents the show from Festival Hall, Osaka on August 21, 1981 on 2CD's and "Stone Cold Night" is another double-CD that captures the band at the same venue the following year on October 12th, 1982. Today Wardour announced the JEFF BECK double-CD set, "Wild Thing", which captures a nice audience recording from The Budokan in Tokyo on June 10th, 1986...Jeff is backed up by the top line-up of  Jan Hammer on Keyboards, Wet Willie's Jimmy Hall on Vocals, Doug Wimbish on Bass and his ace on Drums, Simon Phillips. Other notable Japanese silver disc titles include the next LED ZEPPELIN announcement from Wendy Records...Wendy shifts from those early 70's Japanese audience tapes to the 1980 soundboards and "Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten", the Bremen, West German show recorded on June 23, 1980. Ganja has released FRANK ZAPPA "Bienvenue En Suisse", an excellent 2CD soundboard from Geneva, Switzerland on May 28, 1983.

There are a couple of other stray JEFF BECK titles that are recent arrivals on the scene...Destroyer has released "Avery Fisher Hall 1975" which is a single CD of his New York City show at that venue on April 30th, 1975...and from Solid Air comes "Happy Birthday Jeff" recorded live at Royal Albert Hall in London on June 24, 2004. A bunch of European Boots to log into this weeks recap..."The Johnny Cash Show" is a single CD compilation of the legends' TV show, primarily, some are gathered from other sources but all in soundboard quality and features duets with BOB DYLAN, JOE STRUMMER, U2, WILLIE NELSON and more over 24 tracks...Procured from a now out-of-print official LP, the 1978 MISFITS "Static Age" has surfaced on a single CD...There's a superb soundboard from SLAYER featured on the new bootleg disc "It Came Out Of The Sky", recorded in Essen, Germany on January 10th, 1989...Completely new to me is the band, BABYSHAMBLES, and there is a seemingly popular disc called "Glastonbury 05" that is available on the Libertine Label - it's a complete soundboard of their June 24, 2005 Glastonbury Festival appearance with some bonus tracks included...Recently issues from The Godfather Records is the U2 title, "Love On The Tracks", which captures their Dublin appearance in Croke Park on June 27th, 2005 in stellar soundboard quality...Digital Gang Productions is putting the final touches on a new BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN Devils And Dust show from The Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on November 9th, 2005 and is called, "Thundercrack"...Other Bootleg DVD's new to us this week include OASIS "Good Evening Town" on the Goodfellas Label which features the Television Broadcast of their return to hometown, Manchester back on December 14th, 1997...Party Dog issues an important appearance from THE CLASH at the US Festival on May 28, 1983 on DVD, this was MICK JONES' last show with the band...and finally, how about an early GUNS 'N ROSES show???...on European Import DVD comes "Acoustic Motherfuckers", the Pro-shot video of their CBGB's show, an all-acoustic performance, captured in it's entirety and features the band running through what would become their landmark first LP, "Appetite For Destruction"...obviously one to seek out.

That's it! Thanks again for swinging by and you know where to check for the very latest on a day-to-day basis. If you come across information on your favorite artists please pass it along. You can contact me at sb@hotwacks.com. Have a great week and I'll summarize it all again for you right here next Monday night.
