Can you hear me squelching blood brothers & sisters?.... | |
"My Squelchy Life" could easily pass as a flip but accurate assessment of my own existence but in fact, is a new BRIAN ENO bootleg title released this week from the Back To Zero Label...the single disc contains what was apparently a 1991 studio effort by the techno-pop legend complete with Vocals (a somewhat rare occurence to say the least)...Also from BTZ comes a new double live CD from TOM VERLAINE's band, TELEVISION - "Nights To Remember 1975" captures 2 Summer night performances on July 25th and 26th, 1975 at Cleveland's Picadilly Inn...and SCALA "This Heat" 1CD, some sort of funky music fest (?) at the Scala Cinema in London on December 20, 1979. As we mentioned over the weekend, Secret Garden has issued a rather interesting BEATLES rarities compilation disc called "Can You Hear Me?", featuring live performances from September 5th, 1962 Cavern Club in Liverpool through to San Francisco in August of 1966...some in upgraded quality - others from alternate sources such as amateur video on a single CD. In ROLLING STONES boot news...Silent Sea are releasing the DVD "Montreal Olympic Stadium - 1989", a dupe of Empress Valley's double DVD from last Fall ("Les Roues Metallic Et Les Jumeaux Demons") but SS have produced this one on DVD10 disc which contains the whole show as well in Dolby Digital 5.1 PCM Audio...apparently the demand was out there and EV's version was tough to obtain. It seems the STONES' October 10th, 2005 Philadelphia audience video is a hit because there has emerged yet another version on DVD(via a generic label) called "Shake Your Rock N' Roll Bodies" and all I can tell you at this juncture is that it is a silver DVD release. Look for many of the labels to jump all over the audio and video sources from the 2 shows in New York at Madison Square Garden...the Wednesday night show (1/18) featured probably the most well-crafted setlist yet on this tour (that could be universally agreed upon by STONES fans anyway) and Friday nights show (Jan. 20th) was perhaps a bit hotter performance-wise...and featured what is being described as an improved take of "Sway", than in Columbus in September, and the first attempt at "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" on this Bigger Bang outing...Jumping back to that magical 1981 American Tour, Dog N' Cat Records have announced "Black Limousine" as the title of the next in their soundboard series and this will contain the New Orleans performance at The Superdome on October 5th, 1981. Some Other DVD releases we learned about this week..."Behind The Blood Brothers" is a new bootleg DVD of BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND 1995 reunion rehearsals and shoot for the "Murder Incorporated" video, only this looks to be the more definitive release of this material...it is a double-disc that includes all the more intimate "rehearsal" takes of the band in various configurations and some extended footage before and after the actual show at Trammps, plus some interview footage as well...anyway it looks pretty good! Scorpio too is playing the opportunist role by giving us the LED ZEPPELIN title issued this week, "Over The Top"...what looks to be a clone of the Genuine Masters version of the July 17, 1977 Seattle proshot video, but apparently with 5.1 Digital Surround Audio on a dual-layer disc. How about something completely different!...the Japanese Solenoid Label is pretty good at that and they have issued a DVD-R title from THE HOLLIES, "Terry Years", which provides over an hours' worth of mid-70's TV performances... Finally, an ELVIS PRESLEY release note...the Madison Label has just announced that they will issue "Elvis - A Legendary Performer Vol. 8" and like the others in the series, will feature a compilation of soundboard performance tapes, studio outtakes, interviews and more. Some highlights of this particular set are said to be several superb Ed Sullivan Show performances taken right from the CBS-TV kinescopes!...plus some previously unreleased rehearsals from February 1970...and it all comes with a 16-page illustrated booklet with informative notes. The label does not plan on continuing with a Volume 9 at this juncture but plans on focusing on some stellar, unreleased soundboard tapes!...I'm kind of digging that trade-off. Oh yeah, just to set it straight...apparently Madison had nothing to do with the recent CD releases titled "Elvis- A Legendary Performer Vol. 3 and 4". That's it for this week...thanks for checking in on what's happening and keep our homepage bookmarked to keep up to date via the News Ticker. Have a great week. Svengi |
