Some updates on scheduled releases and Lots O' Stones!...
21 Aug 2006

Welcome back for another review of release news on the bootleg front and title updates here at HotWacks On-line.  Just to frame up the approach taken in this column, I attempt to focus first and foremost on silver disc releases...or the "pressed" issues if you will.  I will also cite significant or worthy titles issued on recordable media - your professional CDR's and DVD-R's, when they seem interesting or other important reasons for doing so.  On that level, it's very difficult to continue tracking the continuous onslaught of those "releases", since you could spend a half day, every day talking about each and every production surfacing from desktop PC's around the globe.  As we all know, there are some professional labels that sort of stand head-and-shoulders above the rest.  Those are the ones you will read about on these pages when applicable.

King Crimson Nightmare CD Sirene LabelJeff Beck Hawaii CD Wardour LabelBeatles Anthology Sessions Secret Garden Label

New titles out of Japan this week...From Sirene comes KING CRIMSON "Nightmare" 2CD + bonus CDR called "Orpheum's Diamond"...the main feature set contains an excellent audience tape recorded in Turin, Italy on November 12, 1973 at the Palazzo Dello Sport - the bonus disc features another nice sounding show from earlier that year at the Orpheum Theater in Boston on May 4th, 1973...Sirene is also releasing the DAVID GILMOUR 2CDR set, "Dark Globe" which will house a very nice recording from the latest tour stop at Clam Castle in Klam, Austria on July 27th 2006...Wardour is issuing the JEFF BECK title, "Hawaii 1975" single CD which captures his live show at NBC Arena in Honolulu on July 30, 1975...Trial CDR brings the DAVID BOWIE set "Oslo '78" to the table this week, a November 5th, 1978 show in excellent stereo audience quality...look for a superb STEELY DAN Euro 2CDR w/bonus DVD-R set called "So Far So Good" which provides a really nice soundboard of their show at the Universal Amphitheater on October 2nd, 2003 - the bonus DVD is a proshot video from Costa Mesa, California on July 23, 2003.

Bob Dylan Phantoms Of My Youth front Thinman Label

Bob Dylan Phantoms Of My Youth back Thinman Label

Another BOB DYLAN release announcement this week from Thinman Records...the label will issue the 1974 Tour 3CD compilation, "Phantoms Of My Youth".  Whenever a label does this, collectors are typically curious as to what cuts from what dates are included so I post both front and back artwork for your insatiable appetites.  It should be noted that apparently there was a sequencing issue with Disc 1 of Thinman's August release, "Supper Club", so you should keep connected with your sources on making sure you are allocated a replacement disc as they become available over the next 10 to 14 days.  The Japanese Secret Garden Label recently issued the BEATLES "Anthology Sessions" CD in limited quantity ...this features studio soundboard audio of the evolution of "Real Love" and "Free As A Bird" sessions for The Anthology project....Another title I don't think I mentioned over the past 4 or 5 weeks for some reason is the GNR set from Bondage Music called "The Donnington MicPac Massacre" 3CD set that captures the 2006 GNR line-up at The Download Festival in Donnington Park, England on June 6th...the set features both soundboard and audience sources.  Genuine Masters confirmed over the weekend that their LED ZEPPELIN DVD, "Knebworth Celebration" double-DVD-R set will be formally shipping to collectors September 8th...Blackdog & Co. are really excited about the upgraded audio in the print of the August 4th, 1979 proshot video they have obtained...should be great.  I'm told the video quality on this is comparible to the WatchTower "Secrets Revealed" but the accompanying audio track is a considerable upgrade to what has surfaced to date.

4Reel Production & Top Of The Line have confirmed that their ROLLING STONES "LA '75" DVD is nearly finished and will street the 2nd week of September (artwork below)...it's interesting to note that the producers of the title are also really excited about the source on this one and the fact that they have procured some rare '75 tour photos from phtographer Marvin Rinnig especially for the cover of this anticipated DVD upgraded edition...4Reel has indicated that their WHO "Voorboorg 1973" DVD will street the first week of September, so we're still a couple of weeks from seeing that one.  Back to more STONES!...It appears that the very quiet Sister Morphine Label will also hop on the 1975 bandwagon for their next title..."Tour Of The Americas MSG" is slated to be on deck next, featuring the June 27th performance at New York's Madison Square Garden...Just announced from the SODD Label is "Viva La France" 2CD which will  provide collector's with a brand new, complete stereo audience source tape for the June 7th, 1976 show from the Paris Pavillon...Idol Mind Productions has just announced MICK JAGGER "First Castle Magic 1988" 2CD, this one has his March 15, 1988 show at Osaka Castle Hall and is a Limited Edition of 150...the label has also issued a "Standard Edition" of their ROLLING STONES double-disc title, "The Harder They Come".

That's all for this round!  Thanks much for the support and please continue to email your comments and questions in for myself or any of the other contributing review staff.  Have happy and safe holiday excursions as the Summer Season winds down.  I'll meet you back here next Monday for the latest on underground recordings.
