The week started out with very heavy news out of Japan...Empress Valley officially announced that their LED ZEPPELIN "Live At The Whiskey A Go Go!" title will be out within the month.  This is as significant a title from the ZEPPELIN archives as we've seen yet...this is supposedly the January 2nd, 1969 show in Los Angeles, their first visit to LA and the second earliest live recording from the band to surface thus far.  Big stuff.  Based on the sample of "I Can't Quit You Baby" that was quickly shared on the net after all the avid collectors received their Empress Valley DVD-Audio Samplers, we're in for a treat.  The release will feature both a DVD-Audio disc and a CD, and we certainly await more on that whole release package.  Quite a release schedule for EV, the balance of their 4th Quarter deluge will also include:...

• "Live In Memphis 1970" 2CD,
• "Milwaukee & Ontario 1970" 2CD,
• "Central Park 1969" 1CD

Also on the ZEPPELIN front, planned releases from Tarantura are: "Burn Like A Candle" 4CD of their legendary June 25, 1972 LA Forum show, along with a bonus disc..."No Quarter" featuring their Earl's Court performance from May 18, 1975 - rumored to possibly be a new audience source, and of course the extremely limited 1971 Tour Box Set, "Kurofune".  Also coming from the label yet in 2006 should be the ERIC CLAPTON 8CD Limited Edition Box Set "Rainbow Concert"...Look also for a PAGE & PLANT DVD, "Unledded Sessions Day One" on the way, containing previously unreleased video of the infamous MTV 1994 filming sessions for "Unled-ed".  Speaking of DVD...the Halcyon Label introduced some old ROLLING STONES recordings in some very glitzy packaging this past Summer and into the Fall...it seems they will dip their toes into the video realm with the title, "Naked Film", a proshot release of the March 22, 2006 Tokyo Dome concert...more STONES, Dog N Cat Records have a couple of new titles on tap for release shortly, "Der Weltmeister Im Baumklettern" 2CD will contain the July 16, 2006 Bigger Bang show at Olympiastadion in Munich and "Hannover Street" 2CD, the July 19th concert at AWD-Arena in Hannover, Germany...Sister Morphine will continue their plans to issue "Tour Of The Americas '75", a 3CD set that remasters the excellent audience tape from the final Madison Square Garden performance on the tour, June 27, 1975...with bonus tracks that include rarities from earlier in the tour, tour announcements, etc.  And...Rattlesnake couldn't help themselves...their "Monitor Mixes 1989" will join DAC, IMP, The Good Sister and all the rest in getting those Steel Wheels outtakes properly distributed around the globe.  I think that pretty much accounts for every STONES-related boot label and then some, for covering that tape!...

...also from Rattlesnake comes the BOB DYLAN disc, "Hear The Echoes Ring", another documenting of the Tell Ol Bill sessions from Summer 2005, recorded for the soundtrack to the film North Country.  If you were looking for something different, you probably didn't expect this...Franny Records has produced a BEATLES CD-Rom - and it sounds like it isn't the last - called, "The Ultimate Experience Vol. 1 1957-1962", a biography with Mp3 content, an HTML Software program for Windows Operating Systems only, hmmm...New MILES DAVIS soundboard coming on the Luxury Label, "Tour Over Europe" 2CD will bring a November 7, 1967 stereo soundboard recording to boot disc, containing a live performance from Stadthalle in Karlsruhe, West Germany...Coming from Seymour Records is the MIKE BLOOMFIELD 2CD set with bonus disc, "The Complete Miami Concert", recorded live at the Gusman Center for The Performing Arts on April 6, 1974, the bonus disc is a December 13, 1973 recording and is limited to the first 100 sets...

In some DVD News this past week...Seymour Vision has a nice looking JIMI HENDRIX set ready to go called "Five Years:  The Legend Of Hendrix 1965-1970", it's a double-DVD set with a bonus CDR in the first 100 copies...Another new DVD announcement, seemingly a Euro product, is QUEEN "Hyde Park 1976", a 81 minute proshot piece, documenting their September 18, 1976 London performance!..and looks great.

No let up for the Sirene burners in Japan, with a couple of YES and related titles on the way..."Bird Of Prey" is 2CD set of theYES Osaka concert on March 12, 1973 in excellent audience source quality...while "Night Must Fall" 2CD is a stereo soundboard of their Concord, California gig on September 17, 2004...on CDR from Sirene will come the ASIA title, "Ride The Wings", a recent concert by the re-united quartet in Boston at The Avalon Ballroom on September 7th, 2006.

In recordable media format out of the usual Japanese suspects...actually, a couple of no label BRIAN SETZER releases first, "Bring It Back Again" 2CDR is a SETZER, SLIM JIM PHANTOM AND MARK WINCHESTER soundboard recording from the Intex in Osaka on February 1st, 2004, then it's THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA "Slip Into A Night" 2CDR, another stereo soundboard recorded live at Shibuya Koukaido in Tokyo on October 22nd, 2003...from Trial comes a LINDA RONSTADT soundboard called "Landover 1976", a December 12th, 1976 recording on a single CDR...JEFF BECK "A Day In New York" 2CDR features a great audience tape from The Jones Beach Music Theater on August 25, 1999...From Power Gate look for VAN HALEN "Atomic Punk", a June 22nd, 1978 concert at Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo in excellent audience quality, and IRON MAIDEN "Definitive Years II", a 6CDR compilation of 4 shows:...New Theater in Oxford, UK on March 9, 1982...a Radio Broadcast from Anaheim Stadium in LA on July 17, 1982...Gaumont Hall in Ipswich, UK, September 18, 1984...and an October 20, 1986 concert at City Hall in Newcastle, UK.
