Less than 48 hours after a brand new LED ZEPPELIN audience tape source is shared over the internet, a commercial title is born.  About 5 weeks after an audience sourcetape surfaces via a member over at the LED ZEPPELIN-devoted website, Royal-Orleans, it was finally uploaded yesterday morning via Bit Torrent download for members only as "Louisville Slugger".  The show was taped at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky on April 25th, 1977 and has been collecting dust deep in a Kentucky garage for all these years and was apparently stumbled upon in late-December.  A second-generation cassette (our owner/doner was given a dub from the master from a teenage friend), the network quickly coordinated a plan to deliver the cassettes to co-member for proper digital transfer.  Yesterday, it was unveiled to somewhat disbelief but that didn't last long.  Earlier this evening, the first of what will surely be a series of releases was announced with the quick-reacting Wendy Records spreading the word that their own "Louisville Slugger" 3CD set will be available soon.  It's a nearly complete, very good tape and stood the test of time fairly well with only some tape issues during the acoustic set ("Going To California") and towards the end during "Achilles Last Stand" with cuts in "No Quarter", "Over The Top/Moby Dick" and another slight cut in Jimmy's Guitar Solo.  It was another monster night for Bonzo and our taper was in a sweet spot to catch the Drums nearly perfectly...and though all 4 members performance are clearly defined in quite a forceful recording, there is some distortion on the top-end to give the end results a bit of a harshness.  It's an interesting listen to a performance that is above average for the bulk of the show.  Our taper was certainly on the floor and close to the stage, as our doner friend offered some his recollections of that magical evening.  Fun stuff, and always exciting when these things just turn up.  I feel the stories behind them are as interesting as the artifacts themselves, and this is definitely one of 'em!  I would like to give Bonhamfan our most sincere thanks for sharing his tapes with the community in the raw source form.  A mighty fine discovery and a fantastic gesture to get this out.  I have posted artwork below for the Presence (Royal Orleans)/fan-produced, raw transfer original and of course, the Wendy Records release announced tonight.

Other than the above it was a fairly quiet and slow news week but here's what else appeared on the radar, the HW News Ticker and elsewhere...A couple of Vintage Masters Premium Series titles I missed in the dragnet last week were JON  ANDERSON "Classic Yessongs" 2CD, a soundboard recording from Asbury Park on August 6, 1982...and DAVID BOWIE "The Return Of The Thin White Duke" 1CD which brings another version of the Nassau Coliseum soundboard tape, recorded on March 23, 1976.  Some new ROLLING STONES titles this week...first, Idol Mind Productions will issue "Beggar's Banquet Alternative 1968" 1CD...and new announcents from Dog N Cat Records include the 4CD set, "Little S&M" which will pair up recordings from Giants Stadium on September 27, 2006 and Churchill Downs (another Louisville recording!) on September 29th of 2006...and "She Was Hot" 2CD featuring the Oakland concert from McAfee Stadium on November 6, 2006 (Sister Morphine is releasing the same show with nearly the same title - "She Was Hot, Hot Hot! In Oakland", along with a sister release called "She Was Hot, Hot Hot! In Atlantic City" containing the November 17th, 2006 show from The  Boardwalk.)

Recent DVD releases from Apocalypse Sound for the month of February...ROLLING STONES "Fade Away U.S. TV Appearances 1964-1969" is comprised of many familiar clips from Dean Martin's Hollywood Palace, all the Ed Sullivan Show appearances, David Frost, etc....PINK FLOYD "More Psychadelic Chronicles" supposedly includes some previously unreleased material but a tracklisting for verification of its' contents wasn't readily available by the uploading of this column...FRANK ZAPPA "I Am The Walrus" DVD brings his proshot Barcelona performance from May 17, 1988 which includes footage not originally broadcast.  New from The Godfather Records this month are the STONES 2CD "No Smoking In Glasgow" featuring the BBC Broadcast of the August 25, 2006 Hampden Park concert in deluxe trifold cardboard sleeve...and two U2 titles:..."Japanese Skies" 2CD is the Saitama Broadcast from November 29, 2006 with some 1997 Las Vegas Rehearsals for the PopMart Tour as bonus tracks...plus "Aloha Stadium" 2CD that contains the very last concert of the Vertigo Tour recorded in Honolulu's Aloha Stadium with special guests EDDIE VEDDER and MIKE MCREADY from PEARL JAM and BILLY JOE ARMSTRONG from GREEN DAY.

Just in to the release desk...a Japanese announcement for a BEATLES 2CD set called "The Best Of Studio Mystery Tracks" which looks like a recent "Love" spinoff production but couldn't initially identify by this early information nor could I confirm an issuing label.  I'll add a comment to the column when I get that supplementary information.

That's all for this week!  Welcome to our newest members and we kind of make this communication central within our site.  Feel free to ask questions, comment on release info, add information, etc.  Thanks for stopping in and as always, keep your browsers pointed to www.hotwacks.com and our News Ticker to get quick bites of the latest news, and of course - here, every Monday an in-depth look at the previous weeks' releases and upcoming titles.  Have yourself a great week.
