Monday Bootleg News Roundup for this second week of April...
09 Apr 2007

Empress Valley has included an interesting new title to their catalog this past week...JEFF BECK GROUP Supporting PINK FLOYD "Messin' With The Blues" 3CD set...recordings from back-to-back nights on July 26th & 27th, 1968 when the JBG opened for the FLOYD at The Shrine Exposition Hall in Los Angeles...Disc 1 features both JBG sets from the first night, while Discs 2 & 3 feature both sets from the second night with the first track on each featuring PINK FLOYD performances of "Interstellar Overdrive" and "A Saucerful Of Secrets" respectively.  These tapes apparently coming from the same source as the recent LED ZEPPELIN Whiskey A Go-Go tape from January 1969.  Speaking of ZEP...EV will release an upgraded source tape from the L.A. Forum on March 27, 1970 called "Everybody Feel Alright" 2CD, as well as the new DVD-Audio "Orlando Magic" giving the August 31, 1971 soundboard tape the enhanced audio treatment.

Time for an ELVIS PRESLEY bootleg update...coming down the pike from the Madison Label very soon will be "Huntsville Alabama", featuring for the first time, the May 31st, 1975 Huntsville soundboard tape in unedited form...the label is also said to have the June 1st show from the same venue cued up in the wings and is said to be one of the longest tapes from the '75 tour.  Also coming this Spring from the MxF Label is a title called "Heavy Times", an upgraded set of tapes from Las Vegas performances on January 28, 1971 (Midnight Show), and January 29, 1971 (Dinner Show)...while these shows are not new, they are sourced directly from the master tapes and given some degree of EQ to bring out EL's vocals a bit more and widen the prominence of the band too...the set comes with a cool 16 page booklet featuring extensive liner notes and over 27 photos of The King in his "Now" jumpsuit to enhance the picture CDs.  A couple of DVD's making the news this week...the Boogie Mama Label has issued a silver disc set of the JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES proshot/soundboard production from Jones Beach New York on June 10, 2000, as you recall, Bad Wizard issued a double-DVD-R of this last December and I assume Mama just took it straight from that source and made it more highly desirable by going the pressed route...Zooey has released the NEIL YOUNG W/BOOKER T & THE MG'S DVD, "Inspired By Otis", which captures the ensemble live in Rome on July 23, 1993 in a proshot/audience source combination...Neil is flanked by the former OTIS REDDING backup group of BOOKER T. JONES on Organ & Synth, STEVE CROPPER on Guitar, DONALD "DUCK" DUNN on Bass, and sitting in on Drums is JIM KELTNER...the DVD runs just over 2 hours.

The Halcyon Label has announced their next ROLLING STONES release as "Supernova", a 4DVD set that features both the Pre-Broadcast version as well as the Broadcast source of the Saitama, Japan concert from April 6, 2006...along with a bonus CD featuring the A Bigger Bang Rough Mixes at an excellent price point too!...that's a tough package to beat for all of that material, and Halcyon does a fine job with the goods.  Seymour Records new MIKE BLOOMFIELD set, "Just Was The Best Guitar Player", has just been released with a limited version of the set including a different mix of the classic "Super Session" that included STEVEN STILLS and AL KOOPER ...the main set is an Anthology spanning 1967-1977 that includes some BOB DYLAN snipets, a rare live performance with JANIS JOPLIN and much more...Some PINK FLOYD release news out of Europe this week..."Echoes In The Boston Garden 1975" 3CD seems to be a clone of the original title on the Heartbreakers label from the mid-90s and "The Pigs Of The Planet" 2CD contains just the Wish You Were Here portion of the February 25th, 1977 tape from Paris, along with some Rehearsal tracks from L.A. 1980 for The Wall Tour.

In some brief updates...it sounds like Aurora  Borealis' work on the CSN/CSNY Box Set is seeing some intense production efforts and is only fighting the battle for scope of contents as they've amassed quite a bit of both audio and video for the effort but sounds like it will be amazing...the label is actually planning a NEIL YOUNG DVD project that we should have details on very soon...Attempts at getting the word on 4Reel Productions' STONES DVD "Houston '81" have proved unsuccessful as the label has nose-dived off the map once again, stay tuned on that...on a similar note, that BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN comprehensive Box Set seems to have stalled out, perhaps our renegade member with the insights will pop in for a quick status?...and the ZEPPELIN Box Sets from Scorpio (Ultimate Studio Sessions 12CD) and Tarantura's "Kurofune" 12CD set should both be unwrapped and streeting very soon.

That's all I've got for this week, please keep tuned to the News Ticker and if you catch wind of something we haven't shared yet, PLEASE shoot me an email at sb@hotwacks.com.  Have yourself a great week and keep praying for Spring to establish itself and let us now move on from the nagging Winter winds!
