A New Zep '77 Soundboard, Springsteen, Bloomfield and Floyd...
12 Nov 2007

After their debacle with the "MSG Working Tapes" release, and the suspect "Lost Sessions Vol. 9", the Empress Valley Label seems to be swinging for a home run...and barring anything controversial - they just may have it with the new LED ZEPPELIN title, "The Powhatan Confederacy" 3CD set that features another previously unreleased soundboard...this one, from night number 3 at The Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland on May 28th, 1977.  An interesting name for this Japanese set as The Powhatan Confederacy was a group of Native Americans that geographically lived on coastal Virginia and eastern Chesapeake Bay...and, Powhatan himself was the father of Pocahontas!...how's that for today's lesson?...on that note, thanks again to the Broken Arrow site for the scans below.  This show has only been available in a fairly good audience recording from Electric Magic in their Landover Box Set ("Crossfire Hurricane") and on TDOLZ as part of the "Maryland Deluxe" package with the other 3 nights' audience tapes.  As a fan of the Zep 1977 Tour, I look forward to hearing this show in a completely different way even though this certainly isn't the strongest performance of the 4 Landover shows...

...In other ZEPPELIN boot news, Tarantura plans on re-issuing the June 23, 1980 Bremen show in a soundboard/audience mix in just a few days...Tarantura did issue the ERIC CLAPTON 2CD, "Where's Derek?" this week which contains an excellent audience tape of his Royal Albert Hall show on May 5, 2004...

...also new this week, from Crystal Cat comes the BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND Magic Tour document "Philadelphia Magic Night" 2CD featuring the 2nd night at The Wachovia Center on October 6th, 2007...from Seymour Records comes the MICHAEL BLOOMFIELD title, "Like A Rolling Stone" 1CD + bonus CDR - this set features previously unreleased sessions with BOB DYLAN spanning the years 1965 through 1980 and features 10 different takes of the title track and live performances from the 1980 Fox Warfield Theater shows amongst other nuggets...

I spent some time tonight just combing through info and that's really all for silver disc boot titles this week.  Hey, did any of you splurge yet and pick up the new WHO "Amazing Journey" DVD set?  Make sure you take advantage if the Best Buy offer on the 3DVD version as it contains the extra disc featuring the great Chicago  '79 Closed Circuit  Broadcast, a 90 minute version anyway but still well worth the purchase.  There are alot of great packages this holiday season and could be the best ever for us rock and roll fanatics!...I highly recommend BOB DYLAN "Other Side Of The Mirror" as well...

If other newsworthy pieces surface over the next few days I will go ahead and add them in here too.  In addition to filling out my review pages I will be posting reviews for the latest BYRDS DVD, the new ZEP Powhatan title as soon as it lands and a handful of other things I can't even recall.  It's all coming.  We have had a serious illness in the family and it had me committed to that whole situation last week so I am indeed needing to catch up for you all.  Thanks for the great emails and keep the communication flowing, don't forget to visit and post away on The Forums pages too!  Have a great week.
