A Queen proshot upgrade, The Who Torrented onto Silver D and more...
03 Aug 2009

...We kicked off the week with the great news of a BOB DYLAN & BAND stereo soundboard from the July 5th show in Rothbury, Michigan and it was looking like a fun week out of the chute.  But, after that nugget of news arriving from the Social Graces Label was shared, things simply went silent...We should see that DYLAN production arrive to market at the end of the month - the updated release date is said to be August 28th...so, what else???...

The Who Providence 1975 No LabelKansas Masque Tour 1975 No Label

...More Japanese and Euro No Label titles this week...pictured above are THE WHO "Providence 1975" 2CD, a really great audience recording from the Providence Civic Center (Rhode Island) on December 13, 1975 which was just torrented for the masses but now very quickly converted to silver disc for commercial consumption...And, KANSAS "Masque Tour 1975" 1CD is one of a string of new 1975 soundboards to surface from the same Paramount Theater in Portland, Oregon - this performance captured on December 12th, 1975 during a really great point in the bands' live history before the commercial success of Point Of No Return and of course the nauseating 'Dust In The Wind'!..ok, I digress....Masque is a fantastic album and the first LP rocks...we'll just leave it at that...

Queen Earl's Court 1977 Definitive Edition DVD No Label

...It becomes a bit of a joke week-to-week, for the jaded amongst us who try to guess which recordings, audio or video, will be re-hashed, repackaged, remastered and regurgitated to definitive status...This one is for you!...Already released in wonderful video clarity and excellent audio, QUEEN "Earl's Court 1977" has now achieved that 'definitive statues with this generic label polishing of 'Definitive Edition'...This is their June 6, 1977 performance at the famed London venue and is highly recommended for those that need the best, certainly for those that don't own a copy of the performance and it will indeed be something to confirm whether or not this delivers on the promise of a definitive upgrade...

Paul McCartney & Wings Fly To The World Misterclaudel Label The Beatles Revolver SODD Label

...Wrapping up this Monday night rant are releases that are polarized in terms of where they land on the interesting scale...Misterclaudel's next title is the PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS release "Fly To The World 1975" 2CD which captures the band live at The Gaumont Theatre at Southampton University, UK on September 9, 1975 which looks pretty promising...and not so much is the desperate "Revolver"  BEATLES release from SODD, a single CD with a supposed needle drop of the Parlophone 1st UK Mono pressing with matrix XEX606-1 - and the bonus CDR of a needle drop of the MFSL stereo pressing...hmmm...wouldn't you love to have a few minutes with the folks who make these decisions?...I mean, if you were to desire a needle drop, these Revolver selections are superb but, why?...We certainly will be waiting a looong time on an answer to that age-old question...

...That's a wrap on this session, thanks for stopping in and we hope your collecting efforts continue to provide interesting opportunities and wonderful acquisitions...have a great week!
