Queen Definitive Mannheim - Wardour Label

...To begin this week's relay of release details, the latest coming down the pipe from Wardour. I'm sure they figure that can't just release 'new' QUEEN so we thankfully see another new classic concert on silver disc from this label.  "Definitive Mannheim" 2CD delivers what is said to be an upgraded stereo soundboard of their June 21, 1986 concert at Maimarktgelande in Mannheim, Germany...Now, I can't knock it because I haven't heard anything from the 'new' line-up featuring American Idol star from 2010, ADAM LAMBERT, and I have no intention of seeking out any recordings either BUT...the more I see of the releases, it somehow just makes more sense than I care to admit!  Anyway, "Still Rock In Hammersmith" 2CD captures the band live at HMV Hammersmith Apollo in London on July 14, 2012 via a superb audience tape - the set also comes with the bonus CDR set "London First Night" which contains a great recording of their show 3 nights earlier on July 11th at the same venue....

The Dukes of September L.A. Night In September - No Label

...I've missed these guys the last couple times they've come through town and I have kicked myself each time, I've heard they are great and having a lot of fun!...THE DUKES OF SEPTEMBER are:  DONALD FAGEN, MICHAEL McDONALD and  BOZ SCAGGS backed by what is certainly a stellar ensemble of musicians  and here we have a non label production called "L.A. Night In September" 2CD, containing their September 29, 2010 performance at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles...and it's a soundboard too.  A great group of artists on one stage, captured in soundboard quality at an awesome venue...nothing wrong with that....

Jon Lord Before I Forget - No Label

...Finally, we get to share information on another non label release which pays homage to JON LORD by leveraging tapes acquired from the archive of the also late, great COZY POWELL..."Before I Forget - Rough Mix" 1CD is a direct transfer from the 2 Brittania Row Recording Studio master cassettes which date back to the early-mid 80's and owned by Mr. Powell.  It's quite a roster of musicians contributing to this project in addition to Mssrs. Lord & Powell the breakdown is:
Jon Lord - Keyboards, Mini Moog
Bernie Marsden - Guitar (1, 5, 7), Lead Vocals (1)
Mick Ralphs - Guitar (8, 9)
Tony Ashton - Lead Vocals (9)
Elmer Gantry - Lead Vocals (4)
Vicky Brown - Lead Vocals (8), Backing Vocals (1, 2, 6, 9)
Sam Brown - Backing Vocals (1, 2, 6, 8, 9)
Boz Burrell - Bass (9)
Neil Murray - Bass (1-3, 5-8, 10, 12)
Ian Paice - Drums (1, 2, 6)
Cozy Powell - Drums (3, 12)
Simon Phillips - Drums (5, 7, 8)
Simon Kirke - Drums (9)

And with the above title, there's a bonus CDR in the early sets, "Octopuss In Progress" seems to share in the contributing musicians to a certain extent but looks to be more of a COZY POWELL project....and that's the wrap....thanks for visiting and have a great week!  On with August...
