REVIEW: |
Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts have always been linked since they were in the Stones together and this product couples two of their recent performances in a non-complimentary titled release. Charlie Watts' love for jazz and boogie has been widely known and after many ventures into traditional jazz and a brief stint towards boogie woogie (when he made up the Rocket 88 album with Stu on piano), has returned to this music playing many gigs with German piano player Axel Zwingerbegger and English piano player Ben Wayters, supported by bass player David Green whom knew Charlie since both were 4 years old. Here is a performance recorded at Jools Holland Later..Live show aired by BBC
2 in two episodes in the same week. There are two Watts interviews, one song played by its band (called the ABC of Boogie) and two takes of a three piano boogie jam when Jools himself joins in. All the
joy of this music comes out on this live music and it can be seen on Charlie’s face that he is certainly pleased. Bill Wyman has put up his Rhythm Kings for yet another string of dates and the first broadcast presents him accepting an award from Fritz Rau that remembers as a ticket boiy he was asked by the Stones in 64 to come to the States for their first tour, Wyman nodding on the side. The next feature is the Bill Wyman Story aired in April by Eins Festival German tv station and features many tv promo videos together with live songs from
Hamburg earlier this year and a nice interview. This is a nice product and contains interesting performance by these two gentlemen that could hardly be called Old Stones without hurting their feelings.
