REVIEW: |
Watching this DVD brought back some great memories from the "High As The Moon Tour" and you cannot get a better version of this broadcast. The video quality is tops and the audio even better. "No Speak, No Slave" has to go down as one of the best show openers in history and they move right into "My Morning Song" which is one helluva one-two punch! After the meaty portion of the disc, you have the bonus material which is icing on the cake. I think the SNL segment could have been obtained in better quality, given it was recorded from a Comedy Central Channel rebroadcast. But so what! And the Ronnie Scott's Club soundboard audio recording has always been a favorite that is accented here with a perfect slide show to accompany the listening.
A negative?....Chris Robinson's inane banter for introducing songs such as "this is one bitch of a neglected albatross"! What the hell? He tries so hard to be random, that it's not! Listening to him sometimes is like listening to a really wasted Dennis Miller, only Dennis makes sense after you have time to dissect his rantings. (I'm slow!) Chris just tries to hone his rockstar spiel. This was one "thorn in their side" in the early days- his mouth. The only other negative here is that "Hotel Illness" is not included. It was a highlight in many shows on this, and subsequent tours. It's a shame it isn't present on this wonderful video, and it's a crime this band is no longer together. This is a testament to that. Do not hesitate if you want to relive a kickass rock n' roll show. Pick this one up. |
