When Bowie's 1.Outside was released in 1995, it was described as "a tough ride", amongst other things. Well, this release is void of any cornerstone "songs" such as Hallo Spaceboy or Strangers When We Meet. So, what we get here is in my opinion...a collection of backing tracks or, soundtracks to Bowies' narratives from the 1. Outside project. Albeit, in fantastic soundboard quality...but this is a tougher ride.
Playing this disc feels like your listening to a psycho-killer movie. Which, in essence is the basis for the official release anyway. We have 37 minutes of I Am With Name/We Creep Together segments...and thats about 35 minutes too much. There is just nothing for us to get involved with here and it's too psychotic. These are backdrops for the story that is being told, composed by Brian Eno and Bowie.
That's enough. This one is for Bowie completists only. The artwork is nicely crafted from 1.Outside photography and layouts. Combine this with the stellar sonics of the disc and it is a worthy piece for those collectors.
