REVIEW: |
Another nicely compiled collection of clips from Bad Wizard that they have templated for many classic artists over the last few years. Great material to sit down and watch as you just don't get to see this stuff everyday. The quality here is generally great but as I always have to state, the repetition of performances is something that can wear on you as the bands always had to play the hits on their guest spots and if you are going to sequence them in chronological order - that's the way it is. The Byrds have been very influential to many of their peers and next generations of bands. It's cool to identify some of the contemporaries along the way like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, etc...it's all there. What's fun to watch unfold is the evolution of musical maturity and confidence with David Crosby, Roger McGuinn and the rest as we fly through the clips. The later performances definitely lose their luster as the personnel becomes unfamiliar aside from the flaky McGuinn. As I stated, the quality is consistently good and the strong audio tracks, mono and stereo, make this DVD a recommended piece for the Byrds watchers out there. If you watch closely to the Playboy After Dark clip, you'll see an incredibly young "Bionic Woman" - Lindsay Wagner, an extra sitting at the band's feet during their performance. Who knows, there are probably other familiar faces floating about in there as well! An unintenional 60's Easter Egg of sorts! All kidding aside, this is a solid DVD release with Bad Wizard's standard interactive menu programming for easy navigation and it's all tastefully assembled in a classy presentation. |

The woman at the foot of the stage is actually (Mrs. Heffner) Barbie Benton. She did some TV sitcom stuff after she married Hugh and posed for Playboy (yeow baby) Comment by burnout wrote on 2008-04-06 21:19:51
Oh, look again. A young Bionic Woman is there as well... Comment by Svengi wrote on 2008-04-07 00:05:45
