REVIEW: |
This is not
the first silver release of the whole tribute for Ginger Baker which happened
in London on February 17th 2020 playing mostly Cream and Blind Faith
songs. Apart from some no label Japan releases bearing the same name it was
also released as A Tribute To Ginger Baker London 2020 (Beano 200) which had
also a DVD-R of the show; the concert has also been out in blu ray format.
The
original taper release (by Daspyknows) was already reviewed here, having been recorded
25 ft away from stage dead centre, the concert featured Eric Clapton and
guests, among which Roger Waters & Willie Weeks on bass, Ron Wood, Nile
Rodgers & Will Johns (Andy Johns son and Eric Clapton nephew) on guitar,
Stevie Winwood on guitar & keyboards, Chris Stainton and Paul Carrack on organ
& keyboards,
Henry Spinetti, Steve
Gadd , Kenny Jones, Sonny Emory and Kofi Baker on drums, Katie Kissoon and
Sharon White on vocals. This recording is really a great one where all
instruments and vocals are clearly heard and there is a good balance between
channels; luckily not much audience interactions and when someone talks too
loud is being silenced by the taper (!). As bonus it has been added the Hyde Park
July 8th concert from 2018 from the British Summer Time tour; this
concert has come out as British Summer Time (Daspyknows recording) Hyde Park
2018 (Beano 179) 2 numbered cd set and as Definitive Hype Park (Beano 180),
then as It’s Coming Home (Mid Valley 856-7) 2 cd set. This concert features
many acoustic versions of Classic Clapton tunes (Nobody Knows You When You’re
Down And Out, Layla) as well as Marcy Levy and Carlos Santana guesting, the former
on The Core and the latter on the encore High Time We Went.
Packaging
presents as front cover the advertising event poster, the included booklet has
track listings for this and the other London show.
