REVIEW:

This is one of those nice surprises because while it looked to be incredible, you figured it was going to be a butchered affair.  Not so!

Boys Next Door come off their Bowie "Thin White Duke" production and present a slam dunk, no-brainer for Clash fans.  This one is right on par with Scorpio/HiWatt's "Purple Hearts & Power Chords" Who double DVD last year.  "Pressure Drop" is also a compilation of TV shows, mainly British, which makes it a must-have for American collector's because you cannot possibly get all this material in one shot - in ANY better quality, anywhere else.  Remember, this is primarily Television footage and the source quality is pretty great.  Our producers have skillfully edited together the first half of the 5-hour Clash video marathon in a seamless and devoted fashion.  Excellent sources utilized throughout.  However, it may surprise a few among us that the later in the compilation you get, the video quality dips.  Nothing too dreadful but that US Festival print used here was one of the pieces I thought would shine.  It's great, but everthing that precedes it, eclipses it by a mile.  The very last segment featuring the Rokskilde peformance, when Mick Jones had already left the band, is pretty horrible.  Nice to have included but it is the only sub-par piece in the whole package.  The video otherwise is right up around 9 out of 10.  The audio is superb throughout and there are no issues there.  The stereo track is consistent with great definition.

Highlights?  Well, all the early episodes featuring interviews.  These are really key in getting to understand the band and it's members.  I've come away with a whole new respect for Paul Simonon, not to mention Topper Headen's drumming!  The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder from 1981 during the whole Bonds Casino run of shows is without question, the most memorable and charming of the batch but the Aylesbury Friars piece is probably the most unique of circumstances as The Clash are guests along with some woman who is a political figure of whatever stature.  It plays out much like a town hall meeting with a small audience and the very young but confident hosts do a nice job of moderating the discussion.  Insightful stuff and a great example of why it is critical for collector's to keep this material in circulation and available.  This is of historical significance.

It's 5 hours of rare Clash.  Look at the tracklisting above.  It's great quality in a no-frills presentation but with nice, smooth programming.  I figure it suits the band fully.  I need to go brush my teeth after watching this, you go seek this DVD out.  God these guys were good.
