Steppin’ Razor is the first title on silver disc to present a more complete version than previously available of the November 14^th stop in Stockholm. Although Mid Valley listed this as previously unreleased, Tulip Bulb Auction Hall on the Cool Engine label featured four songs from this show (with the Lincolnshire show from 5/29/67) but was missing the final three tracks. This is a good clear slightly distant audience source with a minor amount of hiss in the quieter sections and the mix leaning toward the guitar.

The tape seems virtually complete with a small cut in the end jam of “Sunshine Of Your Love” and has a few brief spots of distortion during the song that sounds like it may have been a problem during recording. Clapton sounds like he breaks a string in the solo of “Sleepy Time Time” and this is confirmed when he is announced on 5-string guitar at the end. I found conflicting information that “Cat’s Squirrel” was played after “Sleepy Time Time” but have no solid evidence to support it and the fact that it wasn’t being played around this time makes me have my doubts. There is no apparent cut in the tape between songs. Clapton, Bruce, and Baker shine respectively during their individual show pieces with “Steppin’ Out”, “Traintime”, and “Toad” which all sound clear and powerful in the recording. Ginger Baker actually interrupts his drum solo to say “excuse me a moment, but um, there’s Coca-Cola all over the floor and me feet are sticky”.

Mid Valley delivers the goods again with Steppin’ Razor. Good sound and a nice respectful audience make this a pleasure to listen to. Mid Valley promises another previously unreleased title soon with Whiskey A Go Go from 9/4/67 and hopefully that will be as nice as this one.
