REVIEW: |
This
release presents the very first show from 1984 at the Arena di Verona, a concert
that does not seem to have come out in full; from Got Mt Mojo Working through
Highway 61 Revisited are featured on On The European Tour 84 Blu Ray (Hot Lips
HLBD 003) and a couple of tracks (All Along The Watchtower, Blowing In The Wind)
were included in the DVD Infidels Years (Johanna JPD 170). The full show has
only appeared on Highway 84 (MC) Volume 1 4 cdr. This is a very nice recording
which presents all instruments clearly separated, none particularly prominent
but with a substantial presence of guitars, bass and drums; packaging is minimalistic
with the back cover showing full setlist. However, the best thing about this
release is the surprising excellent recording that presents this show in the
best possible shape, all instruments loud and clear, it is a real joy to listen
to this recording. It shall also be pointed out that this first concert of the
tour has a different opening song and setlist that makes it peculiar;
particular mention for I Got My Mojo Working that features great solos by Mick Taylor.
Since this was the first live date of the tour as a performance it is no bad,
even if it is evident by the many tunings the musicians themselves are
beginning to know each other as well as the repertoire. On the last encore
appears at first Carlos Santana on guitar and then the whole band for the grand
finale Tombstone Blues. This release represents an important upgrade of a
lesser documeted show.
