REVIEW: |
An excellent collectible live document of the Scottish quartets' 2 performances in Germany and The Netherlands this past August. Both shows are TV Broadcasts with full production utilizing multiple cameras and what sounds like digital stereo audio.
The 2 performances, while overlapping quite a bit in content seeming a bit repetitive for one sitting, provide contrasting moods. The Haldern Festival in Germany is a very professional and slick set by the band and almost seems like a canned, sterile event. Part two takes us to The Lowlands Festival in The Netherlands and a much more festive mood and a relaxed effort with the boys obviously enjoying themselves. Silent Sea have certainly obtained an awesome source for producing this DVD. The rating here for the video was downgraded slightly, only because the picture doesn't have that digital crispness to give it a "10". Silent Sea may have used a first or second generation source but the results are sure to please. The disc comes in a superbly assembled, deluxed foldout DVD digipack. A little more info on the shows and/or the band would have been nice to include though.
Watching and listening to Franz Ferdinand, these guys seemed to have leaped out of the early 80's and funnily enough, remind me of a strange alchemy of The Specials, Squeeze and Devo! That'll do. "Franz Ferdinand Live In Concert" from Silent Sea is a solid DVD boot to seek out. |
