REVIEW: |
This should just be subtitled "creative geniuses at work". Watch Tower's second installment of the Record Plant Jams provides more aural tapestry for Jimi and a roaming cast to lay down material that was intended to be culled for future LPs. Which of course didn't happen. Important stuff, historically.
The tapes are clean, clear and crisp. Beautiful sound to what some might consider a bit tedious to listen to in one sitting. Jimi at work with friends such as Stephen Stills, John Mclaughlin, Johnny Winter, Buddy Miles, Larry Lee and of course Mitch Mitchell and Juma Sultan.
These are indeed "jams" but compared to the first volume, more song structure than Volume 1...or even Volume 3 for that matter. In fact, of the 3 so far this is my favorite of the compilations.
Jimi fans are urged to seek out this series. For others not so fanatical...this one 2CD set would suffice.
