REVIEW: |
The recent
death of Jack Bruce Band has seen a surge of a number of recordings come out,
this is a nice recording of the Mannheim concert from early May 1975 that was
never available before as far as I know on disc although present on tape for
collectors. It shows the Jack Bruce Band with former Stone Mick Taylor that
joined after leaving the band in
December 1974; the band assembled and soon toured Europe
in spring of 1975 despite having no studio album to promote. Mick Taylor is in top form and
his guitar work on songs like Keep It Down and Weird Of Hermiston/Post War is
really superb. This is a great recording with all instruments very clear, too
bad it is in mono, although we must say that it is clearly audible another
recording below the main one that pops up in calm moments (probably due to the
tape source). On the second disc the eponymous Without a Word lasts 14 minutes
but it is bypassed by Smiles and Grins that clocks in at 26 minutes
