REVIEW: |
Alvin Lee and Mick Taylor’s Euro tour first stop in
France s capital happened on the 12th of November at Le Palace Paris. This concert has surfaced once on cd before, called Paris Pie and so this presents the same show, although in mono a very enjoyable experience as any instrument can be heard without a problem. The recording is a very good one and almost complete, missing only "Just Another Boogie" and the final jam with "Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Slow Down" The concert is basically an Alvin Lee set of songs that remind Ten Years After log book and feature Taylor alongside Fuzzy Samuels on bass and Tom Compton on drums. There is not much space left after Lee s gymnastic on the frets but
Taylor is able to spread his bluesy toned guitar that contrasts openly with
Alvin flashy style. The first tune where
Taylor can fruitfully heard is "Slow Blues In C" where some space is allowed for him to play his solo. Setlist is similar to other concerts from the Alvin Lee Band in 81 with the exception of "Scat Thing" that seems to have been played only in Paris and two days after in Montpellier; this is only part of a medley that was supposed to include Hendrix "Hey Joe" the whole lot to last abut 22 minutes but only the beginning survived. The show pinnacle is doubtless this version of "I'm Going Home" that lasts just over 16 minutes and lets the Woodstock one pale in comparison for the excellence with which is played.
