REVIEW:

Upon first listen to this disc, I thought we were in for a real treat.  After all, I had a pristine soundboard recording of Bob Marley & The Wailers coming through my speakers!....

But I have to admit, this is a rather bland and uninspired show.  At first I thought the tape used was at the wrong pitch...but the band sounds OK, just really sluggish.  The concert shows promise at the half-way mark when we hit the crowd favorite No Woman No Cry & jump right into Jammin'.  The Chester, UK tape fades at the end of Work, confirming that the recording is incomplete. It just wasn't happening this evening, unfortunately.

As I stated above, the recording is simply outstanding.  This is a well balanced and mixed soundboard.  Tacked on to the end of the disc are 2 excellent soundboard tracks from Kingston in 1978.  Quite a contrast in the feel between the two shows!  The Kingston tape isn't as slick as the Chester, but 5 seconds into Conquering The Lion you know the mood and vibe was there on THAT evening.

The artwork for this CD is adequate, but shows no thought or basis for what photos are used.  Ruff Song found some Marley pictures (smoking up a storm on the insert pics!) and used the Jamaican Red, Yellow and Green scheme for the background and that was good enough for them.  The pressed picture disc has a photo of an unidentified Rastaman.  (It certainly isn't Marley, nor is it Peter Tosh.???)

If you are looking to fill in your Marley collection circa 1980 or a completist...you will need this one.  Otherwise, there are much better shows in circulation for you to track down.
