REVIEW: |
In late June 1992 for the British National Music Day a Celebration of the Blues was held at London s Hammersmith Odeon and many known musicians attended and amidst them Gary Moore, celebrated guitarist that after having found fame in the hard rock group Thin Lizzy switched to the blues; he received support from Otish Rush, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Rogers, Pops Staples, Mick Jagger, Ron Wood and Charlie Watts of the Stones who joined
Gary Moore in various moments of the concert. The backing band was called The Midnight Blues Band and that consisted of
Ron Wood and Charlie Watts and with that ensemble Gary Moore opens the show with 3 songs, then Otish Rush first and then Buddy Guy join. It is then Jagger s turn to play 4 tracks before the final song see
Watts and Wood join his mate.
As far as known just few songs were broadcasted live by BBC radio and they have been recently discovered; as for audience recording and subsequent underground release we had three different releases: A Celebration Of The Blues by IMP which was a good audience recording including Charlie Watts Quintet songs. Then we had We Want Moore Jagger (Rock It! Records) that was a better audience recording of which this release is a copy. Lastly, as before mentioned, the FM radio source that has come out on cdr called A Celebration of the Blues Radio Broadcast that only had the 5 songs with Jagger on with a couple of cuts. This release presents an excellent audience recording at times very close to soundboard. The last one is a cameo appearance by Jagger on a Lenny Kravitz show in
Paris from 1991.
