REVIEW:

The Nine Inch Nails show in Fresno is the first on the current tour that is hitting theaters, arenas and outdoor venues which will end later this summer in support of the new LP With Teeth.  This is the first show in "a long fucking time" as Reznor says on the tape, since the final of the Fragility V2.0 tour in Monza, Italy on July 9th, 2000.  The tape is musically complete and is in very good stereo sound quality.  It contains some muddiness in the lower bass frequencies and contains subtle but annoying clicks between tracks as if it were mastered from a poor cdr copy.  But it does have some depth and a good live sound with is essential to appreciate NIN's brand of industrial-techno-metal-pop.

That we even have a tape is a minor miracle in itself as the taper claims:  "About half of the security doing the pat-downs had wands too, I made sure I went to one of the older ladies with no wand. Inside apparently alot of people were being kicked out, I'm not sure what for.  I did notice one or two security guards up by the front of the stage looking through the crowd the whole show.  At one point I saw like three of them get together and start pointing at me.  I thought I was busted.  Turns out they thought the lady directly in front of me had a camera, you can hear the guy asking her on my recording.  I think they were on the look out of any media devices."

Trent Reznor likes to keep the fan base waiting by taking his time between albums and tours.  For With Teeth, the latest LP, he is trying to gain a more "organic" sound with the material by relying upon other musicians rather than the tape loops and synthesizers.  This is very apparent in the songs from the new album like  "The Hand That Feeds".  This tape is fascinating to hear because he uses the same approach with the older material like "Burn", which he introduces as " a favorite, a favorite of mine at least".  There aren't too many NIN releases floating around and those that are come from Europe since Japan all but ignores the band.  This is a pretty good release that could have been better.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
