REVIEW: |
A typically beautiful package from Apocalypse Sound. However, I'll try to be objective here.... You need to be a very hard-core fan or it is a hard watch.
The video utilized has to be anywhere from a 5th to 10th generation tape. The audio is from the board but, the way it is mixed, it sounds like Kurt's guitar & vocals...and Dave's bass drum are the only components coming through the board. Everything else sounds like it is coming from the stage and it's kind of odd. Not to mention the sound is a bit harsh on the high end anyway. Not a pleasant listen either.
This show was apparently an FM broadcast in Europe. For those with the more tolerable FM audio...AND, in case you missed it on Live Tonight Sold Out, the officially released Nirvana video...this is the show where Kurt screams the Come As You Are lyrics while his guitar is terribly out of tune. In fact, with the condition of the video tape used here, it ALL sounds out of tune! IT IS HARSH.
This show may be a must-have with the proper audio versions floating around, but this DVD is lacking alot of dynamics that doesn't allow to be put in the same category, even though it is the complete show. Now, the bonus SNL show appearance is a different story and a wonderful extra! This is provided in superb quality on all checkpoints and is definitely nice to have. The band is IN TUNE and on fire. Wonderful performances captured that night.
