REVIEW: |
A very good (and steady!) audience-shot video from a notorious Halloween concert in upstate New York 1994. I remember reading about this show in the following days.
Our videotaper had a good perch from the left-side of the amphitheater, since it appears to be outdoors. The source/gen used was obviously direct from the master tape, this is very clean and clear.
The beginning of the opener, Frankenstein (Edgar Winter Group), is cut...but it's a great start and a cool show starter! I'm sure with the band's fluent channels of communication, performing the entire Beatles White Album that evening wasn't a total surprise...it just added to the event itself. How fun. They lead into this meaty portion of the show with Pink Floyd's Speak To Me. With a show this long...over 3-and-a-half hours...and the holiday event, there are many highlights. This is a nice document of that event, too bad the audio isn't a bit better.
The sound does detract from pure enjoyment as it is a little thin. Other than that, Our cameraman was obviously a seasoned vet at this routine because the shooting is incredibly steady and the panning between zooms, nice and fluid. One other, minor irritant with a show of this length is that the cue stops are programmed randomly and it's tough to navigate around.
This is going to appeal to avid Phish fans...or those fans who don't already own a copy! The casual collector will be hard-pressed to deem this one necessary. The budget product & accompanying budget price will help though. |
