REVIEW: |
A really repetitious but interesting and humorous disc! Compiled Studio Session outtakes from RCA Studios in Nashville, September 1967 and Soundtrack outtakes for MGM Studios in October of '67 and January 1968.
This is one for completists in my opinion, but I found myself quite amused by the evolving session takes and awaiting Elvis' inserted lyric distractions to throw the band off....rolling in laughter most of the time! This disc could easily be subtitled "...and the Eagle shit". A seemingly continuous joke lyric insertion by Elvis that, as the disc moves on, you get a sense that the band was just waiting for him to throw it in the mix. But he got 'em every time. Pretty funny stuff. The guy truly had a wonderful sense of humor and they all seemed to have a great time together. That's the take away here.
For the sound itself, the tapes are clear and clean and I like the progression of upgraded sound as the takes are presented to the listener, always ending up with a fully produced but cut Master mix.
Not essential but fun nonetheless. A superbly produced CD Digipack case houses the disc with a contemporary-styled design featuring session notes and photos. Nice. |
