See my review of Volume 1 elsewhere on this site for the background behind these concerts as well as general comments about the packaging, presentation and sound/video quality of both volumes. In general, this is a rare opportunity to view Prince in a club setting, although as the digital video transfer appears to be a couple of generations down the line it's not perfect.
You can view each night separately (each one having its own song index) or as one continuous program.
For the second and third nights of Prince's birthday bash in Miami he performed much-shortened shows, under an hour apiece (compared to nearly 2 hours on June 7, documented on Volume 1). Intriguingly, the liner notes say that on the 9th he played for 80 minutes but only 59 minutes are present on the DVD.
Both nights offer completely different sets from June 7th -- the "Santana Medley" on the 9th is a real eye-opener if you're expecting Prince to make with the housequaking funk, although there's plenty of that to go around too -- such as the ten-minute "Hide The Bone." On the 8th the old Salt 'N' Pepa tune "Shoop" was done for almost 12 minutes as a jam, interpolating bits of "Sexy MF" and "Gett Off." And the 8th also features two Graham Central Station covers, "It's Alright" and "I Believe In You," plus Stevie Wonder's "Maybe Your Baby."
And I haven't even mentioned the crazy collection of hats that Prince and his band were sporting.... --OSWALD
