This
documentary was broadcasted by the BBC n July 2022 and is part two of the series
My Life As a Rolling Stone, which consisted of one documentary devoted to every
band member. From the back cover:
“Keith
Richards has lived a life of defiant hedonism in the Rolling Stones. In this
documentary he talks exclusively about his 60 years career as the lead guitar
player in the band. Featuring rare archive footage, many Rolling Stones rare
soundtracks and interviews.” The known people interviewed are Glyn Johns, Tina
Turner, Slash, Sheryl Crow, Ron Wood, Tom Waits, Don Was, Mick Jagger, Taj Mahal,
Brian Johnson, Marshall Chess, Joe Walsh, Bob Harris, Lisa Fischer, T.Bone Burnett,
Jane Rose, Chrissie Hynde, Bonnie Raitt, Pierre De Beauport, Jon Bon Jovi,
Chuck Leavell, Steve Jordan, Joyce Smith.
All the interviews were made by Oliver Murray
in New York in March 2022.
However, as
a documentary supposed to encompass all Keith Richards life it is pretty unbalanced
passing from the blues years to Wild Horses, skipping Satisfaction, there are
revelations though, like Keith playing on end Beatles records in 1962 or Ruby
Tuesday, As Tears Go By and Angie all ‘emanating from Keith’ in Jagger words to
prove he was not a blues purist, but pop oriented in the 60s too. The most
interesting parts of course consists of unseen footage, like rehearsing Tell Me
or plating Around And Around live in 65; a very good documentary, though not
the definitive one on the man.
