In this volume we get the 1st show from New York from early
November 90, here the line-up was:
Mick Taylor on guitar and vocals, Jon Paris on guitar,
vocals and harmonica, Wesley Nagy on keyboards, Wilbur Bascomb on bass and Damon
Duewhite on drums.
Two recordings
circulated of this show, one of which coming from a box of 4 cds that had the
best sound and mixing/merging it with Maidenlane recording proved to be
interesting.
Maidenlane
and the other taper flipped their cassette during Red House… but not at the
same time, so patches were used to rebuild the complete track:
In detail:
0’00 to
13’38: mix of both sources
13’38 to
14’24: just Maidenlane recording
14’24 to
15’29: mix of both sources
15’29 to
15’49: just the previous source
15’49 to
the end: mix of both sources.
Since both mixes and merges versions were good it was decided to keep both
versions.
All recordings used have been de-clicked
, amplified, both channels
rebalanced and, of course, synchronized. On Disc Two the
left channel has the Maidenlane
recording & the right channel the previous source. This is an excellent
release but listening to the start of the show the impression is that it runs
too fast until Red House, which starts with impromptu new lyrics: “Love don’t
come easy, baby” with the real lyrics starting at 12 minutes into the song. The
first disc is interesting due to collate job that allows the most complete
possible version of this show, but the second disc presents what can be called
another source due to the fact that you can hear the keyboards on one channel
and the guitar on the other, it seems a different mix and in fact it is.
