REVIEW: |
With this number we have arrived to the end of this
series, here on volume 23 are both shows from New York in early May 93 with
Tumbling Dice, here the line-up was:
Mick Taylor on guitar and vocals,
Babi Floyd on vocals, Bobby Keys on sax,
Ivan Neville on keyboards and vocals, Michael Neville on bass and Adolfo ‘Fofi’
Lancha on drums.
The version already posted as Volume 6 of the Tumblin’ Dice Series was very
good but Maidenlane’s recording for the 2nd set is interesting
because it has a more complete tuning, a complete version of Boogie Man where about
47 seconds were lost due to the tape flip* and of Goin’ South where about 20
seconds were lost for the same reason.
*
Because
the 2 segments had been skillfully reconnected, this significant gap was not
perceived as
before. Here we have a more complete version, using
most of the previous version but completing it with 3 patches coming from the
Maidenlane recording. The merged version of Boogie Man is interesting and has
been placed on Disc One due to a lack of space as ‘hidden track’. This is an
interesting release, although Disc One is the same as the one released before
on Volume 6 of T.Dice series; at the beginning of the Tuning however, it
happens on the notes of Melissa by the Allman Brothers that was played to
entertain the audience before the show, the first 35 seconds solely from
Maidenlane. On Disc Two Boogie Man has a
patch from Maidenlanes recording from 5’45 to
6’33, while on Goin’ South there is another patch from Maidenlane’s recording
from 7’38 to 7’59. The experiment with Boogie Man (the merged version) is ok,
with the guitar on one channel and the drums on the other.
