This series
presents special gigs where Ron Wood and Mick Taylor came together (between
2011 – 2013) to pay tribute to some artists and music that influenced their
careers.
It begins
with the ‘Boogie 4 Stu’ shows and the Chess Records tribute and concludes with
the handful of ‘Tribute to Jimmy Reed’ performances in London and New York City;
the current Rolling Stones guitarist teamed up with his direct predecessor to
shine a light on some classic blues and early rock tunes. Many other luminaries
also played on some of these shows, not the least of which are Charlie Watts
and Bill Wyman, as well as Al Kooper, Simon Kirke and Gary Clark Jr.
The line-up
for this gig was: Charlie Watts on drums, Ben Waters on piano and vocals, Axel
Zwingenberger on piano, Dave Green on double bass, with special guests Mick
Taylor on guitar, Ron Wood on guitar and vocals, Bill Wyman on bass and vocals,
Mick Hucknall on vocals, Jools Holland on piano, Tom Waters, Don Weller and
Willie Garnett on sax, Shakin' Stevens on vocals, Martyn Hope on guitar, Hamish
Maxwell on vocals.
The recordings come from videos, they are often incomplete and of very
variable quality but represent a precious testimony of this tribute to Ian
'Stu' Stewart. The order in which the songs are presented here is unconfirmed.
It starts
with an unidentified boogie woogie with only
the
A, B, C & D Of Boogie Woogie, then Roll ‘Em Pete with Hamish Maxwell on
lead vocals, the A, B, C & D plus the horn section (without RW & MT).
Follow Drowning In My Own Tears (faded in) with Mick Hucknall on lead vocals without
RW & MT; on Roomin’ House Boogie (faded in) there is Ben Waters on lead
vocals, with RW & MT; to get the most complete track 2 versions were
combined: the first just until 2’19 then a mix of both sources until 4’33 and
the end is from the 2nd source. On Worried Life Blues we get RW on
lead vocals while on
You Never Can Tell (faded out) there is BW on
lead vocals and on Shake, Rattle And Roll Hamish Maxwell is on lead vocals. Don't
Lie To Me has Shakin' Stevens on lead vocals, Martyn Hope on guitar; this has
been rebuilt with 2 segments reconnected at 0’37. On Bring It On Home To Me (faded
in) there is Mick Hucknall on lead vocals, then there is a boogie woogie piano
instrumental (faded in) with the 3 piano players, but without RW & MT. Can
I Get A Witness (faded in) and Hi-Heel Sneakers have Mick Hucknall on lead
vocals, The last 3 tracks are the merged versions of Roomin’ House Boogie (merged
from 2’19 onwards), Worried Life Blues (merged from 0’24 onwards) and Bring It
On Home To Me (merged from 0’41 onwards).
