The first Neil Young DVD release on GoodFella from the Godfather tree of labels. And a great release I might add.
The quality varies here but apparently no better sources are available at the moment, and some of the content has been available in comparible quality on an expensive Japanese release (but that won´t spoil anything for most of us!). The BBC footage from '71 is amazing. A funny Young in classic form on acoustic guitar for a laid back crowd that somehow doesn't seem to get into it. Young doesn´t bother and gives performances that bring chills to your spine and tears to your eyes. Great quality and great performance.
Next up is London 1976, a great tour with Crazy Horse and electrifying performances of "Cortez The Killer" and a stunning "Down By The River". Shot on film in B&W, the footage is a bit rough but the perfromance is essential.
So is the last track, "Old Laughing Lady", which Neil performs as being a street musician on acoustic guitar on the streets of Glasgow, Scotland. Very funny to see how people react as most people think he´s just a guitar playing bum who´s trying to make some money.
A true gem content-wise, quality-wise it has it´s rough edges but worth having for every prospective Young collector.
