REVIEW:

The Jeff Beck Group  UK dates in 1967 saw them perform many times at theMarquee Club in London, unfortunately only the late September one has surfaced so far. Beck's playing here is not that much restricted to standard blues but shows signs of future engagement with his personal interest in experimenting although not heavily as it has been in his last days with the Yardbirds. A funny moment is on Elmore James "I Can't Hold Out" 1st version where solicited by Stewart to play the blues Beck answers with few lines from 'The Bridge Over   River Kwaii.' Supported by Ron Wood's straight bass lines and Mickey Waller's steady drumming, the band shows also Rod Stewart peculiar vocals. It is strange to listen to tje Jeff Beck Group's versions of   "I'm Losing You" later of Faces fame and "Oh Pretty Woman" from Albert King that will be covered by John Mayall's Bluesbreakers too. This recording came out already by Scarecrow as The Oldest Lost Tape but here itis coming out again from Black Valentine Selection, an IMP spin off, said to be from the original reels and in fact it has a more brilliant and punchier sound.
