REVIEW:

Volume 8 of this series gets us in Detroit; on t his show as special guests there was Bobby Womack (vocals) on Big Bayou and Bring It On Home To Me-You Send Me and the Tower Of Power brass section; for this show there were two versions:

Source #1 was complete, but ran too slow (had to be accelerated by +3,1%) and the sound was in mono (one channel duplicated).

Source #2 can be found in particular on the Rockin’ Rott-release Happy Birthday, Testu!

It had to be decelerated by -4%. The sound was in stereo but had flaws in some tracks where one channel was altered and it missed the last two tracks. For both recordings, the correct speed could be found by synchronizing them with the official version of The Stripper. As usual the best version (source #2) was chosen and so this release was completed with patches from source #1, where the last two tracks come from as well.

In detail on Disc One: It’s All Over Now was restored with 3 mono patches from source #1 (at 1’45 to 1’51, 2’52 to 2’53 and 3’01 to 3’04), after I’d Rather Go Blind (#2) there was a gap before the next track; on Disc Two: Big Bayou after 3’07 comes from #1, Angel the 15 first seconds are from #1, Stay With Me (#2 patched with #1) was restored with a mono patch from source #1 (from 0’57 until 1’09), then there is a fade in/out between the last two tracks. This recording is good although at the beginning a bit muddy and distant.
