REVIEW:

The Steel Wheels sessions are the focus of this work, the first two discs come from Training Wheels (Social Graces 001/002) bootleg which presented early versions, work in progress of the Steel Wheels album, while the third disc is based on For Your Precious Love (DAC-057) bootleg which had rough mixes for the album. DAC 057 was lossless, while most of the other bootlegs of these sessions are lossy; as usual phase & level correction and new equalization has been applied.

Compared with the sleek production of Steel Wheels what surfaced as Training Wheels on the new Social Graces label are outtakes infinitely more interesting than; many of the takes on the earlier tapes had minor variations in the mix, but these date much earlier in the sessions with well-known songs in a much more primitive state of development. The sound quality isn’t as good as on the earlier tape but is still excellent.

Continental Drift is the only track not recorded in Montserrat but actually in Morocco, where the basic rhythm instruments was made lacking lyrics and the Moroccan overdubs.

It is great to have more outtakes from these sessions which present the second set of outtakes from Steel Wheels that have appeared on many labels. Cpt Acid work helps in adjusting the sound output that can now satisfy even the collector hardest to please.
