This new series is dedicated to a really special tour of Mick Taylor
because it was his first with his own band, as a headliner and not as a band
member. It’s also special because, perhaps under the influence of singer and
bassist Roger Troy, it contains a great variety of songs not played on any
other tours.
For this tour the line-up was: Mick Taylor on guitar, Roger Troy on vocals and
bass, David Bennet Cohen on keyboards and Colin Allen on drums.
For this first volume of the series, there were 2 recordings available:
Source #1, an interesting one because it has a more stable speed, a wider
spectrum and is in stereo, but suffers from having some micro-cuts and some edited
banter. Born In Chicago was very incomplete and the sound very high-pitched. Source
#2 is more complete but the speed was fluctuating (it ran overall too fast by
at least 3%), the sound was in mono and rather low. Therefore, it was decided
to combine both versions to obtain the most complete possible one.
The merging of the 2
versions is not perfect because of multiple speed variations of the 2nd source
but it is much more interesting than the separate versions. Here are the
details for every track:
On Born In Chicago (end merged) only the end of the song was present in
source #1, so until 3’22 the source is only #2, then the merge starts. I’m A
Blues Man, The Stumble, Love Me Or I'll Kill You Baby, Bad Boy and Born Under A
Bad Sign are all merged, the last one except from 5’10 to 5’13 (missing on
source #1) only from source #2. Got My Mojo Working was merged but starts with
a fade-in; Move Me-Too Much Monkey Business-Reelin’ And Rockin' were merged
from 5’06 until 5’22 only source #2. Further On Up The Road was merged with
exception of a one second patch at 2’32 which is solely source #2 because of a
big noise in source #1. Mama Lion as merged as well as Turn On Your Love Light where
a gap at 5’15 has been deleted.
The overall sound output is really good here and playing superb.
