Volume nine of this series is the second concert in Cambridge, all versions
were different.
The first one (source #1), coming from Dime, had a slightly more muted
sound and was centered on the guitar; on another version (source #2) the sound was
more spacious and you can hear the other musicians much more, especially the
piano and vocals.
The merging of the two gives a very interesting result: the guitar is on
the left channel (source #1) and the other instruments more on the right
channel (source #2): this gives a stereo effect that allows to appreciate the
whole Mick Taylor's talent. Each version has first been reworked (equalized, de-clicked,
phased, defects removed, etc.) then the two sources were mixed and used to
complement each other after being synchronized.
This was an excellent concert that should not be overlooked by any blues or
guitar fan... and even more so by any Mick Taylor fan; in particular the T
uning was merged
except 5 first seconds coming solely from source #1, on I’m A Blues Man a
microgap is now patched in the 2nd source (right channel), on Sweet
Home Chicago (merged) except from 6’09 to 6’17coming solely from source #1
at 3’44 a microgap is now patched in the 2nd source (right
channel). On Baby What You Want Me To Do after 3’40 the 2nd part of
the song (2’33!) is coming solely from source #2, while the Band Introduction
#2 and Encore Break are coming solely from source #2 until 1’52, then they are
merged; finally the Outro (not merged) comes solely from source #2. Soundwise
this is another great recording of an excellent performance.
