The good old days of Whitesnake before they became MTV darlings.
The first segment represented on this bootleg contains six songs from The Paris Theatre, London in July 1978. The sound is very good (8.5) but could be better since it is from a radio broadcast. David Coverdale seems to be having some trouble with his monitors since he is singing in "Lady Luck", "I'd be alright if I could hear myself". It's just nice to have this Deep Purple track included on here since it would be dropped from the setlist very soon. Coverdale does his Howlin Wolf imitation on "Steal Away" (poorly). On all songs, there is some trouble making out Micky Moody's guitar and sometimes the keyboards come to the front of the mix too much. Jon Lord is not featured here since he didn't join until October 1978. (Pete Solley plays this show). In my opinion, Jon really fattened up their sound nicely.
The second segment is from a BBC session in March 1979. The sound is excellent (10) and are very close to the original album versions. The "Lovehunter" 2006 EMI remaster actually includes these four tracks so their inclusion on this CD is not so special any more. Jon Lord is featured here so we actually have a studio version of "Aint no Love" with him playing on it.
The last segment from Germany in February 1979 is poorer audio quality (7.5) and does not warrant repeated listenings.
The packaging is typical for Bondage: double sided color insert and nice pictures from the time period.
Overall not as good as "Live at Hammersmith" or "Live in the Heart of the City" but a nice compilation for hardcore fans of the rough and tumble early Whitesnake.
